    Acknowledgments

First, I would like to thank Almighty God for guiding me through every inch of this book. I would also like to thank my spiritual parents, Dr. Creflo and Taffi Dollar, for their unfailing love and flawless impartation of the Word of God. Finally, I would like to thank my family; my sister Elaine; my brother Melvin; and a host of other family members and friends. Without your love and support, this book would have never been written.

    Introduction

Many years ago, I received a call from God to write a book for Him. In essence, I received a series of deep impressions followed by the realization that He uses many people in this fashion. The problem I had was at the time, I was a newbie—a brand-new Christian. I had no idea how to conduct myself as a Christian; let alone have the wisdom and intellect it takes to write a book for Him! So, incognizant to myself, I began a journey of learning about God—an endless discovery of who He is, how He behaves, and most importantly, how to please Him.

I joined World Changers Church International (WCCI), led by Pastors Creflo and Taffi Dollar, in January 1997, and my life has never been the same. In my opinion, Pastor Dollar provides a deep look into the things of God but from a very simplistic point of view. That’s what makes his teachings so triumphant! The Headquarters Church, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is gorgeous and operates on the cutting edge of what Jesus has commanded Pastor Dollar to do. This church is an unquestionable wonder of God! I urge you to check out WCCI whenever you are in the Atlanta area.

God called me to serve Pastor Dollar in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry under the guidance of Minister Carol Jones. Minister Carol, as she is so lovingly called, is an absolute prayer and preaching phenomenon! One evening, I was asked by one of my friends to give her a ride to a prayer ministry meeting, so I sat in the back of the chapel and observed the meeting. I was so impressed with Minister Carol and the boldness she exerted as she led the team in prayer. I was also stunned by the overwhelming sense of love permeating me from that meeting. All of a sudden, it hit me: God was showing me where He wanted to use me. He called me to serve in the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. For those who don’t know, God entrusts intercessors to pray for others during their time of need. I relished the opportunity to be taught by Minister Carol! After a few weeks of training by her, I was permitted to join the intercessory prayer team.

Here, God taught me the meaning of working behind the scenes—what it meant to work and go unnoticed by society. This was very different for me because until that point, I had always worked in high profile positions. I was always placed out front and noticed. This was necessary for me, I believe, because it took my attention from myself and my needs. Jesus uses intercessors to empathize and make an immediate impact on the needs of others. It is never about the intercessor; it is always about the person or event they are praying for. He also used the Intercessory Prayer Ministry to teach me about unselfishness. By showing me how to place the needs of others before my own, I became very effective. Many of my own prayers have also been answered by interceding in behalf of others.I joined the Intercessory Prayer Ministry in 1999, and I’m still there! Although I am now a member of World Changers Church Raleigh, North Carolina, one of Pastor Dollar’s fellowship churches, I am still a member of the intercessory prayer team! I absolutely enjoy being used by God to pray for others!

Initially, I thought I was to write a series of books on employment, but that’s not entirely true. God revealed to me some time ago that my initial books are to talk about His calling. Not His calling to preach the gospel but His calling upon us to our various careers. Yes, each child of God has a call, or an assignment if you will, designed by God for each of our lives. It’s up to us to spend time alone with Him to discover and develop these gifts and callings He has placed inside us. Many of you already know what your call is, but the vast majority of us do not. Whether or not you discover what God has created you to do is left entirely up to you. His gifts and calling are without repentance. What that means is Jesus is not double-minded; the gifts and calling He has given you are yours whether you use them or not. They will simply remain dormant inside you if not acted upon. The graveyard is full of unrequited gifts and callings.

My goal in writing this book is to take a deeper look into employment from a biblical perspective. There are so many believers who don’t know how important this subject is to God. Many of you trust God for healing but believe it is your responsibility to obtain work on your own. In case you didn’t know, we serve a loving God, a loving Father, who cares very deeply about every aspect of our lives.

It is my greatest desire that Jesus will use this book to transform lives, bring restoration to lost dreams, and inspire each of us to desire a closer walk with Him.

    Chapter 1

    The Call

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

    —Romans 11:29

One of the best books I have ever read was written by Dr. Oral Roberts. It is entitled When You See the Invisible, You Can Do the Impossible. It is an absolute masterpiece about his walk with Jesus. I read it at least once a year to refresh and renew my spirit. In this book, Dr. Roberts talks about the call to preach God’s Word, and he says, In a real sense, from God’s standpoint, you receive a call to your career even if it’s not for the ministry.¹ That is a very audacious statement, and I wholeheartedly agree! Each of us are born with a gift or a desire to accomplish something. Sometimes it’s generational, as in my case. Both my parents were employed and retired as public school teachers. For the better part of my career, I have been employed as a technical trainer and instructional designer, and I have consulted in these roles for various companies throughout the United States. I truly enjoy standing before people and teaching a subject! It was only when I became born-again, at age thirty-six, that I discovered God had a definite plan for my life.

I have learned through experience that God created us to be unique. He created us to stand out and make a difference. He wants our lights to shine brightly and the world to take notice. We are supposed to be instructing the world on the benefits of Christian living and not begging them for a job! And He gave us the perfect example: His son Jesus. If you read the four Gospels and the book of Acts, you will notice Jesus was extremely different from the people of His day. He stood out in a daring way and declared His Father’s Word. Jesus never tried to blend in or get in where He fit in. He never wanted to fit in. He knew He was different, and He embraced His differences and excelled in them. Why is this important? Because God has created each of us to be exceptional, exclusive, and one-of-a-kind. He created us to be a voice and not an echo.²

Take a good look at the world. It’s full of copycat ideas, copycat music, and copycat inventions. Copycat! That’s all Satan is able to offer anyone. Jesus is an original,
