Introduction
My name is Shakota Field. I would first like to say thank you for picking this book up and giving me a chance to give you a different way to think about things. I’ve been in the ranching industry my entire life, and I have also been a Christian and was raised in a Christian household. My brain has always had a unique way of making things make sense—or at least that is what I’ve been told.
I started writing a few things down and was encouraged to keep doing it by close friends. Then due to COVID, I lost my job and felt as if God called me to use my free time to write this devotional. It is aimed at giving cowboys a way to look at something we do day in and day out and apply it to our walk with the Lord. If you have never even touched a horse, I would still encourage you to give this book a try and see if it doesn’t change the way you view some things.
There are only fourteen chapters, all of which are fairly short. I wouldn’t call this book a teaching but more of a guide to help understand some of the complicated aspects of faith and how I dumbed them down for myself. Before reading each chapter, ask God to open your heart and help you to understand the message.
Thank you so much for picking this book up. It means the world to me. God bless you.
Timing Is Everything
God’s timing is perfect, right? Isaiah 60:22 tells us, When the time is right I, the Lord will make it happen.
That tells us that God’s timing is perfect, but I know for me it doesn’t always feel that way. The key here is that His timing is perfect for His plan, not ours.
When I think about timing, I always tend to think of a branding pen and flanking calves. Anyone that has flanked enough calves can tell you it’s all about timing. If your timing is off, you’re going to work your butt off and not get much done. When your timing is right, flanking is smooth and easy; but to have that timing, you must rely on the person on the rope.
