United States of America
The United States is a republic with fifty states. Forty-eight of the states are located in North America between Canada and Mexico.
The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America. The state of Hawaii is an island in the mid–Pacific Ocean.
American Flag
The American flag of the United States is a red, white, and blue banner with thirteen red and white stripes, and a patch of blue with fifty white stars. Each star represents the fifty states of America.
The flag has been changed twenty-six times since 1777. The fifty-star flag was adopted in July 1960. We call our flag at times the Stars and Stripes,
and Old Glory,
and at times, the "Star-Spangled
