Protection for First Responders - Omar O. Newell

    Day 1

Each day you serve, should be counted as a blessing. You are making a difference in someone’s life, so put on the full armor of God, which means to prepare yourself to face any challenge that may come your way. Be wise in your decision-making. Ask God to protect you and serve with him at the forefront of your mind. Be ready to switch at a moment’s notice, from a guardian to a warrior mindset to protect yourself and your fellow men. You can achieve this when you put on the full armor of God.

P ut on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

    —Ephesians 6:11 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 2

I’m a firm believer that God will protect and deliver his people from the trap and ambush of the evil one. God will guide your steps and point you in the right direction. He will surround you with guardian angels. Once you trust him, he will give you the knowledge and the inclination to see or hear things before they cause harm to you or those around you. Believe in him when he says, I will protect you from trouble and surround you with angels to protect every move you make. He is your protector and your hiding place.

    You are my hiding place;

you will protect me from trouble

and surround me with songs of deliverance.

    —Psalm 32:7 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 3

When you find yourself in situations that you may think that is too much for you to bear. Just remember, God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. As servicemen and women, we sacrifice a lot to serve and protect our communities. If you ever find yourself where things may seem like they are not going your way, just remember, you can find strength in the Lord. He promised that in times like these, he would be your present help.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

    —Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 4

When you serve, stand strong both physically and mentally. The devil is looking for a loophole to enter your thoughts. Be confident in what you do. I once heard a saying that, You are your greatest adversary. If you are not confident in yourself, you are basically telling yourself that you are a failure. It is harder to recover from self-condemnation that comes from within, than when you hear it from someone on the outside.

Do not be afraid of those you come into contact with. They are mere flesh and blood just like you are. Do not be frightened. The Lord is your helper.

    So we say with confidence,

"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

What can mere mortals do to me?"

    —Hebrews 13:6 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 5

God made a promise to Israel and Joshua that he will not fail thee nor forsake thee; he will not leave thee to thyself, but will always be present with thee to assist and make thee successful in thy undertaking. This promise, though made at a crucial time to Joshua and Israel, stands true to us now.

Do not fear your enemies; do not be anxious or afraid to serve. God goes with you on every call or assignment you may be given. Be strong; be courageous. You got this. He will be right there with you. He will never leave you or forsake you. That’s his promise!

    Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them;

for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

    —Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 6

My sister would always quote Isaiah 54:17 to me, especially when I was serving in Iraq. This passage also serves me even off the battlefield. If you have not yet experienced accusations from fellow employees or employers, count yourself blessed.

However, if and when this happened, just remember that God will give you the courage and strength to stand and see your accuser fall. Remember, the Lord will take care of and protect his children whether you are on the battlefield or in the classroom.

No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me, declares the Lord.

    —Isaiah 54:17 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 7

When you trust in the Lord, he will pave the way for your success in your chosen career. He will always give you the strength to help you to grow and rise to the top. Remember, if God sees that you are serving to the best of your ability, he will elevate you to positions that will give you a broader platform to impact even more people around you.

Sometimes, you may think that you are not qualified for a promotion or a position, but when God put you there, the task becomes so easy. This is because he knows what you are capable of, and once you trust him, he will sustain you.

You make your saving help my shield,

    and your right hand sustains me;

your help has made me great.

You provide a broad path for my feet,

so that my ankles do not give way.

    —Psalm 18:35–36 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 8

In all things, God will protect and keep you safe. He is a safe place. He created you with a purpose. Trust in him and allow him to direct your life. Sometimes, when you may feel like life is more than you can bear, just remember that he is your shelter, your hiding place, your comfort, and your strength. Let him guide your thoughts and let your life be filled with happiness and peace. You cannot enjoy true peace and happiness until you fully surrendered your life to him. Let him be where you seek happiness and refuge.

Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.

    —Psalm 16:1 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 9

Many of us look at life as a challenge and a task that we have to push through every day. We feel like we are on the battlefield every day fighting to make it in this life. Each day brings new challenges, along with headaches and strife. Sometimes, we have to stand still and let God direct our path. Let him fight our battles.

He will fight for you, but he can only do that when you trust in him and allow him to direct your life according to his will. If you stand up for him, he will stand up for you and fight for you. Be still means to trust in him fully, so whatever comes to take you down would have to face him first.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

    —Exodus 14:14 (NIV)

    Prayer Notes

    Day 10

With the Lord on your side, why should you fear others? You are more equipped than they are. Remember, you have someone who is watching over you twenty-four hours of the day. Fear is of the devil. Do not allow fear to cripple you or to take over your mind. If fear takes a hold of you—you cannot serve to the fullest
