Path to Aries - Keith L. Bassett

    chapter 1

    Future Is a Dream

Do I have what all it will take to make the journey this time? I keep asking myself this question, but I have support from all the good in every human soul that still exists on this planet. This story starts from the end or beginning depending on how you look at it.

We are near the end of human life, at least as we have known living. Man’s own faults and imperfections have finally caught up with us and will soon destroy all men, good or evil.

I have invented the machine that we hope will give us yet another chance to prevent our own destruction. It came in a dream, so real I feel I must have been there; however, the dream seemed to be from another lifetime, a different me. Only in this lifetime has technology advanced enough to use the time machine.

For the last one hundred years, the concept of time travel has influenced man to wonder or experiment, to find a way. So far no one has developed the means because they have only tried to send a living being. Our proof was a success more than we had hoped for. But can we keep the secret, or will those who would use it for greed and evil find out before we can use the technology ourselves?

I’ve heard it said before that those who follow their dreams create the future. So why did I have the same dreams in a previous life and again in this life. I must have lived several lives, learning from each and experiencing various levels of feelings, discomforts, happiness, joy, sorrow, and frustration; yet each life was lived as a separate person with unique talents, most recently as a scientist and before as an artist, poet, musician, laborer, slave, and even a king.

Since I have lived other lives, does this mean history must always repeat itself, always reaching the same end? Or this time, can one man’s virtues and vision change the world enough to reach an even balance between good and evil?

There are around one hundred thousand living followers, all believers, that there must be some hope. There is a lot of planning still ahead. We must continue to plan for the journey as time is certainly running out.

We found the wormhole that will allow us to move through time. We believe that others have found the same or soon will find it. The wormhole exists when an eclipse of the sun, the planets of Jupiter, earth, and their largest moons aligns perfectly.

It happens every 1,105 years within a window of a few weeks, randomly flickering on and off, or opens and closes if you will. It appears with the presence of a star and was told of occurring before by ancient records, but the story and records were nearly lost during a lengthy period of darkness and evil that ruled most of the planet.

The wonderful and colorful eclipse will only be seen on a certain part of the planet relative to the world’s rotation and at the optimum time when the celestial bodies aligns perfectly for several minutes.

While one side of Earth would witness a lunar eclipse during the daytime hours, the opposite, dark side of the Earth would witness the exceptional bright light reflecting back from Jupiter having its own lunar eclipse at the same time.

    Chapter 2

    The Stone of Sullon

Man has existed for over thousands of years with tyranny and slavery common with the Egyptian, Roman, and Greek races, frequently battling with smaller countries or taking over tribes for dominating power and control. Many of these countries have advanced in society with science, mathematics, and literature. They developed irrigation for crop cultivation and worshipped a multitude of gods and sculptured idols.

The start of our current calendar was reset at zero when an evil power took over a great portion of the world. This dark sadistic terror of man would last for many years. A self-proclaimed emperor is given seemingly unlimited power that would lead him to ultimately control two-thirds of the world.

It was late afternoon, and young Nero and two if his close friends Suetonius and Masor entered a parlor for drink and food. The three young men enjoyed meeting at this tavern frequently as it was located near the main street entering Rome. They enjoyed watching the merchants and travelers coming and going and seeing new and familiar faces.

Close by were the slave traders who Nero watched with interest. He thought that the slave traders made too much profit and dreamed of how a man could monopolize this industry.

With the population nearing 50 percent slaves in Rome, Nero was discouraged that the end of slavery someday would come by rebellion from the slaves as they were treated very badly by the owner or merchants that sold them.

This day would be different; it would change the life of young Nero forever. The men ordered wine and bread to help pass the time. They laughed and told jokes about the one thing they all had in common. Each of these men came from respected and rich families, providing all the comforts in life they would ever need.

Nero slowly pondered around the room, there sitting at the table over his friends shoulder was a traveler Nero had not seen before. The man was sipping wine and carefully sorting out some type of cards that immediately sparked Nero’s interest. Perhaps it was the musky smell from the tavern or changing light from a cloud that just passed by but something made Nero feel as though he had been there before. It must have been a dream. What sort of game is this that you play? asked Nero

The man looked up from the table in recognition of Nero’s comment and said, "This is a game, but not a game that is won or lost. It is a game that, only by chance, a person may see his future.

Nero rose from his table to get a better view of the person and cards that had inspired his interest. As Nero stood, he could see he is a slender middle-aged man, but something about him was distracting from his initial interest of the cards he was playing. What may I ask is your name, and how does one play such a game? Nero asked.

The man said, "My name is Carraus, and these are the cards of Pandora. There are no other cards
