This Struggle Is Real: A Study Guide

This is a study guide based on Scripture that covers some of the dark areas of human emotions. This guide covers loneliness and low self-esteem. There are times when we beat ourselves up about something that we have done, and as we look/think back, we question ourselves as to why we did that, and then we only end up asking the question, Who's gonna love me?

If you are new at using biblical study guides, please get yourself a bible that you can understand. It can be the New International Version, New American Standard Bible, or the Amplified Bible, or if you can understand the King James Version, then use that. You can read Matthew 28:20 (Life Application Study Bible), And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.

Or you can say this prayer if you do not know how to pray:

Dear Lord, I come to you this day, this hour, this minute, asking you to heal the loneliness that plagues me like a roaring lion. Please do not allow this emptiness to devour me, to weigh me down in the depths of sorrow. I know you will never leave me nor forsake me. Please send a comforter, to heal my mind, body, and soul. Please open my mind and heart as to what you would want me to learn about this darkness that wants to devour my soul and how to overcome it—IN JESUS'S NAME.

We are going to start out with the story of Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan. David and Jonathan were like brothers. After David had slain a number of the enemies of Israel, he took time to think about his friendship with Jonathan, and God smiled on the heart of David.

The King said, Is there not still someone of the house of Saul to whom I may show mercy and kindness of God? Ziba replied, Jonathan has yet a son who is lame in his feet.

And the King said, where is he? Ziba replied, He is in the house of Machir son of Ammiel in Lo-debar. (2 Sm 9:3–4 AMP)

    • Lo-debar in the Bible means ghetto. It also means without pasture, and it has a derogatory meaning for lack of enlightenment or stupidity.

Then, King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir son of Ammiel at Lo-debar.

And Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, Came to David and fell on his face and did obeisance. David Said, Mephibosheth! And he answered, Behold your servant!

David said to him, fear not for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your fathers' sake. And will restore to you all of the land of Saul your father (grandfather) and you shall eat at my table always.

And Mephibosheth (the cripple) bowed himself and said, What is your servant, that you should look upon a dead dog as I am? (2 Sm 9:5–8 AMP)

    • Mephibosheth is in a mental state of Lo-debar. He does not think highly of himself.

There are times when we get in a mental state of Lo-debar, when we cannot pay bills, when we give more of yourself to someone who takes our love and friendship for granted. Whatever the situation, get a pencil/pen and be honest with yourself and write about it. Write about the events that lead you to be in a Lo-debar mental state of mind.

Coming out of a Lo-debar state of mind is a process that only God can bring you through. Read the following scriptures:

For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong and shall keep your foot from being caught (in a trap of hidden dangers). (Prv 3:26 AMP)

    Say this prayer:

Dear Lord: You are a God that reveals secrets. Reveal unto me the hidden traps of my life that have kept me bound in a state of
