About this ebook

Ex-army special forces sergeant and cop Moses Pain, after countless arrest, resigns from the force. After seeing a revolving door for violent criminals who are back on the streets in days, sometimes some cases hours, Pain--a highly decorated soldier and honorable man--sees his once beloved neighborhood transformed into a vice-filled cesspool of drugs, violence, and prostitution. His life is forever changed one warm summer night while on his way to meet his fiancee, Norma. He finds a new and urgent sense of duty and commitment: to clean up what was once a safe family neighborhood. And with the aid of three friends, they start their own brand of justice. Moses is determined to give the neighborhood back to the peaceful people who walk the streets in fear, the peace they once knew, or die trying.

Moses exits his apartment. He sees a robbery in progress. Three men are attempting to harm a senior citizen, so he walks over to the three thugs that are harassing the elderly gentlemen.

Moses, calmly but firmly. Hey, fellows, why don't you cut the old man some slack? Now that sounds like it works out for everyone and nobody has to get hurt. That's a win-win for all of us.

The muggers look at one another with anger and disbelief on their faces. Moses fights the three men, leaving them lying on the street then helps the elderly gentleman to his appointment. One of the muggers watches Moses go in the diner. He calls three more thugs to retaliate as he makes his way to the restaurant.

People laughing, talking, and eating and having a good time. People checking out at the counter. Norma giving customers change. Moses looks up at Norma, and smiles at her and she blows him a kiss. He smiles back. Three men enter and are seated in different locations in the restaurant. They nod at one another.

Two couples exit the restaurant at the same time. A young woman sees a couple she knows and goes over to the table to say hello and chat.

A waiter notices one of his favorite customers and walks over and asks how they are doing today, and they shake hands. At the same time, a couple of people are walking back and forth to and from the restroom. A young man carries a tray of food to a table. The customers are satisfied with their orders and thank the young male waiter.

One man walks into the restaurant and heads straight to the checkout counter. Norma is behind the counter. The men dressed in all black draw guns and demand that the register be emptied out. The three men that nodded to one another in different locations stand and fire a shot into the air.

Robber 1, shouting. This is a robbery! Empty your wallets, purses, jewelry, every damn thing you got on except your tidy whiteys on the counter!

The robbers go from table to table collecting money and jewelry, completing the robbery.

He begins to shout at Norma, frightening her to empty the register, and she drops the money. He demands more money, and she drops it, so he shoots, killing her.

Moses, screaming. No, no, no, no!

Moses charges over to help Norma and is shot three times.

Moses, mumbling. I couldn't save her. I left her behind. I failed her. I couldn't do…I couldn't do…what was trained to do. I let her down.

The EMT workers decide what to give him to calm he down.

Moses wakes up, opens his eyes, and begins to look around the room.
