About this ebook
"I just don't have time to pray" or "When do you think I have time to pray? With a husband, three kids, a dog, and a job, when do you think I have the time?" Other times, I hear, "I don't know how to pray" or "I don't know what to say" or "What's the proper way to pray?" These are comments that I hear on a regular basis, in addition to "Pray for me. God seems to hear you." This book is actually two books in one. The Stoplight: How God's is Operating in Your Life gives you insight, using the stoplight (traffic light) as a guide, on how God has been working in your life all your life, even though you didn't realize it. There will be times while you are reading this book that you may see a situation that you could have written yourself or written about someone you know. You will see how He has lifted us up, carried us, let us make our mistakes, and then help us correct them. It also shows you how others in the Bible had flaws just like we do. Most painfully, it shows the sacrifice that God made for us by giving up His Son, our brother, so that we may have eternal life. Stoplight prayers will show you when you have time to pray, how to pray, and what to say when you pray. You will be amazed at how many opportunities you will have to pray during your busy day. Little tips and insights will enhance your prayer life and lead you on a journey of establishing a better relationship with God. Trust me, you will never be able to look at a stoplight the same way again!

Chapter 1
Defining the Traffic Signal Light
(Also Known as the Stoplight)
For the purpose of this inspirational guide, we will refer to the traffic signal light as its better known name, the stoplight.
The stoplight was created in 1912 by Lester Wire, a Detroit, Michigan, policeman; modified in 1920 by another policeman, Walter Potts; and was patented by Garrett Morgan in 1923 (Design Observer). These events occurred long after God had created His world. Man thought that he was just creating a means to move traffic along timely and keep us safe through this directional flow. That is good,
our Father would say because He had another divine purpose in mind when He gave Lester the original idea.
God needed another tool to reach us, and that tool is the stoplight. We know that God is everywhere, but did you ever consider that He would use something as simple as a stoplight to get your attention?
How? Just follow along. Look at the similar meanings for the man’s stoplight and God’s stoplight.
Man’s Stoplight
Green light: Go!
Yellow light: Proceed with caution / prepare to stop.
Red light: Stop!
Each of the colors of man’s stoplight has a specific meaning, but God’s stoplight, even though the colors are the same, has the same and different meanings as they apply to our Father’s presence in our lives. Our God is a God above all gods and is the master of all the colors of the universe, but for now, we are just going to deal with the colors of the stoplight—the green, the yellow, and the red—the colors we see all day, every day.
God’s Stoplight
What could God’s green light mean?
Green light: Your time has come, go ahead, my child, with my blessing!
Green light: You’re doing well! Remember to take time to rest.
Green light: Now go. Think about what I just saved you from.
Green light: This job is yours!
What could God’s yellow light mean?
Yellow light: Proceed slowly. Makes sure that everything is in line with my Word.
Yellow light: Proceed slowly. Be aware of what is going on around you.
Yellow light: Proceed slowly. There is no need to rush. Everything is on my time, and as you know, I’m never late.
Yellow light: Proceed slowly. You’re still healing.
Yellow light: You have a decision to make.
Yellow light: Take time and think.
What could God’s red light mean?
Red light: Stop! It’s not your time yet. Be patient, my child.
Red light: Stop! You need rest.
Red light: Stop! You can’t do everything alone. Delegate.
Red light: Stop! I removed him/her from your life for a reason. I have someone that I have selected for you coming your way.
Is this the end of the list? No. This is just a few examples of what God’s stoplight could mean because, as we know, we never put a limit on what our God can do, nor will we ever fully understand His ways. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain
(Psalms 139:6, NIV).
Chapter 2
Father, Child, and the Stoplight
…Our Father in heaven…
– Matthew 6:9 NIV.
We are a child of the Most Holy God. He is our Heavenly Father. He is our guide and protector. As our parent, He tries to lead us in the path of righteousness. He picks us up and carries us when we can’t carry ourselves.
Carolyn Carty, in 1963, wrote one of three versions of a beautiful poem that reflects how our Father cares for us, a poem that most of us are familiar with, entitled Footprints.
"One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to him and one to my Lord.
"When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
