About this ebook

Revelation is the only book in the Bible with a specific verse that says, "Blessed is he that readeth." Revelation covers the past, present, and future. Many people over the years, both saved and lost, have asked for a study guide to the book of Revelation. This book is a view of my understanding based on years of study. There's no attempt to add or take away from the Lord's Word. Read the verses as 100 percent true and my thoughts and opinions as thoughts and opinions.

These notes are based on thirty-four years of study. There may be others with differing opinions. Always read God's Word with prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit. All scripture used in this book was taken from the King James Version of the Holy Bible.

    Chapter 1

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

The Revelation of Jesus Christ means that this is the only one. There are no other books to come or no other revelations. There is only one, and it's the one we read in God's Word. Jesus gives this revelation from God to an angel unto John and unto us. Revelation in the Greek (Apocalypse) means uncovering, unveiling, and disclosure.

Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that He saw.

John is mentioned at least four times as the author (Revelation 1:1, Revelation 1:4, Revelation 1:9, Revelation 22:8). John was the author of John (fourth gospel) and three epistles (first, second, and third John).

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

For God's children, those that are born again and saved through Jesus Christ is a blessing to both read this glorious book and to hear this book read. All of God's Word should be a great blessing to us.

    John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

John will write letters to seven churches that are in Asia (many say this is around AD 90 AD). The number 7 will appear over fifty times in Revelation, and verse 4 was a Jewish greeting that was common in those days (peace be unto you).

And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

A clear description of Christ who is our only redemption.

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

This description is used to describe Israel and the church in the scriptures (Exodus 19:6, 1 Peter 2:9)

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

No doubt this is the speaking of Jesus Christ.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Our feeble minds cannot completely understand our God's great power. How do you understand that God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit are three different but yet three of the same? I cannot explain it as it deserves to be explained, but by faith, I believe it.

I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

John was sent to the isle called Patmos for preaching God's Word and testifying of Jesus Christ. John makes it clear that he is but a man, and we need to remember that John is trying to tell the things he saw to the best of his ability as led by the Spirit.

I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

The Lord's spirit was upon John, and he heard a great voice, and he can only describe it as if it was a trumpet. We can only imagine how this incredible, powerful voice sounded.

Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

A lot of information is found in verse 11. If you read verses 12 to 18, it's clear that John is hearing and seeing Christ. John is instructed to write what he sees and send it to the seven churches, which are in Asia. There were seven churches that actually existed, but also, these letters that John will write will expose the spiritual condition of churches today, good and bad. Many feel that these seven churches also represent the seven ages of time in history. This is the timetable many scholars say fits events that happened from Christ being born until the rapture:

Now, in my opinion, I feel that these dates and historical events do match the letters. John wrote to the seven churches, but
