About this ebook

The playwright grew up working in a bowling alley. She cooked, she waitressed and she became an avid bowler. In high school, she won a state tournament, all events, scratch. As ad adult, she joined the 600 Club during league bowling and won money back at statewide tournaments. Her last average was 172. But, she also did theater. This is her first attempt at script writing.

    Act One

    Scene one

    The Place.  Living room of Eartha; carpooling for bowling league begins.

    The Time.  The present.

    Show Music.  Before lights, excerpt of Gary Puckett’s Woman, Woman.

    Eartha

    (Offstage to kids)  Leave the remote alone, for God’s sake.  You cannot use that for your sister’s new capital punishment.  Knock it off and knock it off now.  (Phone and doorbell ring simultaneously)..Get a life, I keep telling myself.  (Deep breathing techniques, goes to door)

    Mary (enters)

    Eartha (goes to phone)

    Mary (stands with coat on and bowling ball bag and purse overwhelming her)

    Eartha

    Take a load off your shoulder, Mary dear.  (To phone)  Yo! Yourself.  The teen line is 5784.  Yeah you get a life too.  (Hangs up).  (To phone)  You little shit.  Oh god, not you Mary.  Now aren’t you a little early this week?

    Mary.  (Nods no).
