    Down at the end of Killers’ Row, past the point where the cobblestones gave way to raw dirt, there was one last tavern huddled under the great granite walls of the monastery.

    To be honest, I think the monastery forgot it was even there. Not that monks of the Great Raven had any proscriptions against drinking. They were some of the best customers of the lower end taverns in the area. They drank copiously, told jokes that even made the sailors blush, and though those monks didn’t start trouble, with a single coughing cry they could end it.

    Of course, it helped that a single coughing cry from one Raven Brother was enough to summon twenty or thirty more Raven Brothers. A veritable murder of monks.

    Hence the street name, Killers’ Row.

    But the Raven Brothers ignored that last little tavern for the same reason most other drinkers
