INTRODUCTION
According to the CDC’s findings from 2017 to 2018, almost half of all adult Americans have obesity in the United States alone. To be precise, 42.4%.
Why is that? Why are so many people suffering from not only obesity but also its adverse effects? And why is it now being celebrated?
Obesity is dangerous. It puts extra strain on your cardiovascular system, as it works harder to pump blood to fatty areas. Not only that, obesity makes it more likely to have complications from illnesses and diseases.
No one should want to remain obese or to stay dangerously close to the line of being obese.
Besides affecting your physical health, it’s also not good for your mental health. This is where dieting comes into play. Most people lack the self-discipline to go on diets and, even more so, to stay on them. Many diets are overly restricting or too time-consuming, or the meals take too long to prepare.
Three words: the Paleo Diet. This is a diet that some consider a fad, but it has worked wonders and improved every aspect of your life for many people.
I’m not guaranteeing anything, but I firmly believe that going on the Paleo Diet for a few months will improve your health.
Now, if the word diet
is scary to you, don’t be afraid of it. I don’t expect that you will immediately eat a complete Paleo Diet after reading this book. Not when you’ve most likely been on the Standard American Diet (SAD) all your life. Isn’t that acronym something?
Yes, the way most Americans eat today is sad. Most of us have had fast food, red meat, and potatoes all our lives. But living on fast food is not a good thing.
This book is for you if you know you need to seriously revamp your diet. By the end of this book, you should understand what the Paleo Diet is, its risks and benefits, and be able to decide if you want to try it.
And even if you aren’t ready to go completely Paleo right now, I hope this book plants some seeds to encourage you to eat healthier. Make your own meals with organic, wholesome ingredients and eat a balanced diet. But whatever your journey, enjoy it as I hope you embark on a healthier diet.
CHAPTER 1
PALEO DIET DEFINITION
The Paleo Diet is very popular today because of its scientifically backed benefits, such as healthy weight loss and diabetes. And its possibilities for improving heart disease and other chronic illnesses. Essentially, the Paleo Diet means returning to the basics and eating the most natural or organic way possible. It is sometimes called the Caveman diet because it mimics the food available to hunter-gatherer societies in the Paleolithic era.
The primary goal of this popular diet and lifestyle choice is to allow people to eat the way they were designed to eat. It optimizes the body by only letting organic produce, lean protein, and healthy fats inside. The discordance hypothesis says there is a mismatch or conflict between the food in the modern world and the kind of diet and lifestyle humans genuinely need.
