Alana

The trouble with vampires is that you never really know where you stand with them.

Take Jax for example.

One minute we’re slinking around, fooling around at work, and the next he’s pushing me away like I mean nothing to him.

He’s completely enamored with me and then he’s not.

He’s totally enthralled with me...and then he’s not.

He’s the literal definition of hot and cold when it comes to love, and I’m honestly very, very tired of it.

And I’m tired of him.

When he finally got to meet my twin sister’s boyfriend – who is apparently also a vampire – he treated me terribly. He made me mad enough that I quit on the spot and walked away, desperately hoping never to see him again.

At the same time, the idea of never getting to hold him again or touch him again or just feel him seems wrong.

There’s a part of me that believes fate brought the two of us together, but if Jax is pushing me away like I’m not important, then it can’t be fate.

Fate couldn’t be so cruel.

After everything happened at the library, I went home, and I sat there.

And that’s where I am now.

I make it three days.

Three days of ramen noodles and peanut butter crackers and glasses of warm tap water because I’m too tired to make ice, and then I realize I can’t keep doing this.

I can’t be this pathetic mess of a woman.

I’m more than this.

So, I decide to go crawling back to the hospital. Apparently, Jax told everyone that I was out sick, which I know because I’ve been getting a lot of text messages telling me to get better soon.

I don’t reply to any of them.

Why would Jax try to save my job like this?

Did he tell everyone I’m sick because he thinks I quit in anger?

I totally did, but that doesn’t mean I need his help. In fact, I need the opposite of Jax’s help. I need him to just leave me alone and never speak to me again so I can focus on work and my friends and trying to heal as a person.

I fell too hard for him and we both know it.
