EASTER IN THE BIBLE

Easter is a significant Christian festival that is celebrated all around the world to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This holy event is celebrated on the first Sunday that follows the first full moon after the spring equinox. The name Easter has its roots in the Old English word Ēastre, which was a pagan festival honoring the goddess of spring, Eostre.

The origins of Easter go back to the first century when Jesus Christ was crucified on a Friday, known as Good Friday, and rose from the dead on the third day, which is celebrated as Easter Sunday. According to the New Testament, Jesus was crucified during the Jewish festival of Passover, which usually takes place in late March or early April. The early Christian Church decided to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ during the same time as the Jewish Passover.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a fundamental belief of Christianity, and Easter is the most important Christian holiday of the year. The resurrection of Jesus Christ signifies that death is not the end of life and that those who believe in him will have eternal life. Easter also represents the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, and hope over despair.

The Easter story is recounted in the four Gospels of the New Testament – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  According to the Gospels, Jesus Christ was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by crucifixion by the Roman authorities. After his death, his body was placed in a tomb, which was sealed with a large stone.  On the third day, the stone was rolled away from the tomb, and Jesus Christ was found to have risen from the dead.
