Preface

I want to begin this book of haiku and other poetry with a heartfelt Arigatou gozaimasu to the people of Japan for their beautiful art form. As a white woman, I have no wish to appropriate a form of poetry from a culture that isn’t mine or disrespect the country of Japan and their traditions. I am deeply grateful that this poetry exists as it was been the way that I have coped with and processed the myriad of emotions, made sense of events and held onto my truth amid gaslighting and confusion at the end of an emotionally abusive marriage.
