Preface
I want to begin this book of haiku and other poetry with a heartfelt Arigatou gozaimasu
to the people of Japan for their beautiful art form. As a white woman, I have no wish to appropriate a form of poetry from a culture that isn’t mine or disrespect the country of Japan and their traditions. I am deeply grateful that this poetry exists as it was been the way that I have coped with and processed the myriad of emotions, made sense of events and held onto my truth amid gaslighting and confusion at the end of an emotionally abusive marriage. When I couldn’t sleep, when thoughts and feelings became too much, I could write poetry
