You're Driving Me Crazy! - John Reinhardt

    Develop Good Driving Habits

Before getting into bad driving habits, we need to talk about good ones.

All drivers should know the rules of the road. While we hope others will follow them, and drive safely and carefully, we should always be prepared for the opposite to happen. This is key to developing safe driving habits. We know what we should do, but what do we do when others aren’t driving correctly?

This book will help you recognize these dangerous driving behaviors, what to do to avert problems caused by these drivers, and how to avoid doing them yourself. With these tools, you should be able to enjoy many safe years of driving.

Did you know? In 2019, there were 228,679,719 licensed drivers and 299,267,114 registered vehicles in the United States. These drivers drove a total of 3,261,772,000,000 (over three trillion) miles. (NHTSA, 2021) (Source: https://driving-tests.org/driving-statistics/)

Anticipate every scenario and create options. Knowing potential problems and creating a plan will save your life and maybe someone else’s. I believe driving a motor vehicle is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening activity that should be performed in such a way as to not force others to compensate for your driving. Take it seriously. It’s a privilege, not a right.

    Did you know?

    • Average number of car accidents in the .U.S. every year is 6 million.

    • More than 90 people die in car accidents everyday.

    • 3 million people in the U.S. are injured every year in car accidents.

    • Around 2 million drivers in car accidents experience permanent injuries every year.

Everything we can do to make our roads safer and more enjoyable will benefit us all.

    Challenge

As you read through the book, record how many of these topics you see drivers do, including yourself, by marking the checkboxes before each topic on the Contents page.

After you’ve read the book, and you know what to look for, challenge your friends to see who can spot the most. Feel free to let me know how many you’ve seen. There are a lot of them, so I doubt you’ll see them all anytime soon. But given time, you might!

Also, if you see any bad driving habits or situations not mentioned in this book, let me know by emailing me at john@bookdesign.com. I’ll make note of them and possibly include them in the next edition and give you credit.

Be sure to check out the book’s website at youredrivingmecrazy.com.

    Tailgating

Get off my ass! This one really drives me crazy! It’s my number one dangerous driving habit.

I talk about keeping proper distance from other drivers later in the book, but tailgating is such a serious offense it demands to have its own section, right up front.

Tailgating is driving so close to the car ahead you reduce your ability to stop in time to prevent a
