    About Greece

    Greece, officially known as the Hellenic Republic, is a country located in southeastern Europe with a population of approximately 10.7 million people. The country is situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula and is bordered by Albania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria to the north, Turkey to the east, and the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south and west.

    Greece is widely known for its rich history and cultural heritage. The country is considered to be the birthplace of western civilization, with ancient Greek civilization making significant contributions to philosophy, art, literature, mathematics, and science. The ancient Greeks were also known for their advancements in architecture and engineering, with famous examples such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Olympia.

    Modern-day Greece is a democratic country with a parliamentary system of government. The country has a mixed economy that is heavily reliant on tourism, shipping, and agriculture. Greece is also a member of the European Union, the United Nations, and NATO.

    The Greek language, which is an Indo-European language, is the official language of Greece. The Greek alphabet, which consists of 24 letters, has been in use since the 8th century BC. Greek cuisine is known for its use of fresh, local ingredients such as olive oil, feta cheese, and seafood. Popular Greek dishes include moussaka, souvlaki, and spanakopita.
