About this ebook

Jesus invites you to open up the pages of this devotional to discover God's love, compassion, comfort, and provision for this season of grief in your life. He is in every one of these twelve widow stories written in the Word of God. The stories are true, and these women existed so you can hear their widow story speak to your heart to help heal and restore your loss as you turn to Jesus Christ, our Savior.

God desires to meet with you personally on every page. He longs for you to turn to Him and hear His personal message of comfort for you in each passage. He draws near to you and hears your cry and will bring you up out of your sorrow. He will place your feet upon the rock of Jesus Christ, His Son, and help you take each step of faith. He will put a new song in your mouth so others will come to trust in the Lord because of your widow story.

May the words of Psalm 40:1-3 speak to your heart and draw you to Him.

And He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,

And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;

Many will see and fear, and will trust in the Lord.

To all those widows who have loved and lost their spouse

Strength and dignity are her clothing,

And she smiles at the future.

    —Proverbs 31:25 (NASB)

Many thanks go out to Jesus Christ, my personal Savior, and the Holy Spirit for His illumination of the Word of God through the writing of this study as He constantly reminded me that he who began this good work will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). And He continues to say that to you as you read these stories.

To my husband, Roger and our children,

    for their loving support.

To Reverend Richard Weagraff, who challenged me

    to put this together.

To Pastor Allen and Pastor Joan Young

    for their constant encouragement.

For all the Bible study ladies who prayed.

    You know who you are.

And to Tricia Gold at Hagg's Tax Team

    for her generous donations.

Enclosed, you will find a devotional for widows that I put together with the Lord's help.

I pray you hear His voice in every word.

I pray you will find continued words of encouragement and comfort from God's heart to yours.

In the spring of 2021, I was asked to return to Kenya, Africa, on a mission trip. The original plan was for me to preach these lessons in country. But the Lord clearly stated He would not allow me to go.

What you hold in your hands is the reason why. If I had gone, these stories would not be on paper where His message can reach more people than if I stood to preach.

I have prayed so much for widows of all ages, and there are so many here in my own community and church.

Over four months, I prayed and wrote down what the Lord had spoken to my heart that He wants you to know. I am His messenger on these pages, especially since I am not acquainted with the grief of losing a husband.

    Sincerely,

    Pam

God, in His wisdom and providence, has established marriage as a covenant relationship, a sacred lifelong promise reflecting our unconditional love for one another and believing that God intends for the marriage covenant to reflect His promise to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

On our wedding day, our vows contain the words forsaking all others, as long as we both shall live, or until death do us part. As believers in Christ, we have the hope of heaven and eternity where we will be with our believing spouse forever.

My hope and prayer is that you will find, in these stories of biblical widows, that God has a future and a hope for you in Christ.

    Introduction
