DEDICATION
It is a matter of fact that Christian leadership established this country. In the American tradition, we are to love one another, work hard and be honest. Our Forefathers warned future generations of what could happen to our freedoms should we falter in our faith and core values and not be self-reliant.
I have seen with my own eyes that this lack of faith, core values and self-reliance is, in fact, happening now. Currently, about ten percent of our military service recruits have had minimal or no experience in survival skills. It would be very unwise to fool yourself into thinking someone else will show you how or help you survive when disaster strikes. We should never assume that we can fall back on the use of our military or emergency personnel in disaster emergencies as they will already be over tasked with their required duties and those duties may not include assisting us.
I call on the men and women of our nation to realize that (if they don’t already know how) they need to find out in a hurry
how to survive in any emergency survival situation. Our nation as a whole is individually weak in many areas of autonomy or self-reliance. These traits are not an option but a must know
! Without basic survival know-how
we will be in a complacent state of dependency. Individuals and groups being complacent and not fighting back started slavery!
My childhood was shattered with emotional and physical abuse. I left home at the age of seventeen to search out autonomy and self-reliance and joined the military. That said, having trained in the military and having served in combat operations, I can surely tell you that the basics of survival are paramount!
So far, God has shown America plenty of patience and provided protection but we need to brush up on our basic knowledge so that, in the case of an emergency, we can survive alone, reorganize and consolidate, plan our future and see it through. If we are to remain weak in our individual autonomy we as a nation will be weak and our nation now being known as weak creates a very scary scenario!
While this book only concentrates on certain subjects due to limitations of time and space, there are other books available that can be used to get more specifics and detailed information in the areas of trauma, first aid, shelters, etc.
Many Americans have lost their lives due to a lack of knowledge not lack of willpower. Our history will remind us of periods of time when pandemics and starvation and even civil war occurred. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that these events could not happen again (as our forefathers had probably thought the same in their time).
Simple study and preparation can make all the difference in a survival situation. In the event a disaster or survival emergency does occur, as it probably will, you will not have to feel the guilt, frustration and then subsequent depression and emotional pain from not having been prepared physically or emotionally to take care of yourself or your loved ones.
With autonomy and group dedication by all Americans to learn the survival basics, we can regain our self-reliance and be confident in knowing that we can survive in any situation! We can create a brighter future even when we are given a soup sandwich
to work with!
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
What is security? No one knows what or when an emergency situation will occur. Natural and man-made situations will always be an area of concern. These days, most emergencies are complicated and almost impossible to predict. Hurricanes, Tsunamis and almost all weather issues only give us a few hours to prepare. Nuclear and solar events are almost immediate. At some point, each person will be put in a position that will require them to employ all their knowledge and skills and put into place their plan of action. As survivors, we must plan, train and manage the stress that will come with those inevitable situations.
Most people share a common will to survive. What most of us lack is the knowledge to act when the situation arises. Under the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, there are plans to train and develop our managers in areas of disaster clean up. Not much information is provided in the area of preparedness. This preparedness is an individual’s responsibility.
In the United States Military, a successful training system is used to train members of a patrol. Basically, the Sergeant will assess the overall training requirements necessary for a situation. The Sergeant, knowing that time and resources are limited, will divide training classes down to individual smaller classes and issue each member a class to be researched and delivered to the entire group. In this way, large amounts of information can be covered and then delivered to the whole unit. This collective training measure is very successful and, in fact, is also used in most professional development courses that are attended by big business’ CEO’s. It would be wise to augment this method into each family, office or organization. One should plan for any emergency situation that can arise and make sure to have the required materials, training and final plan that can be effectively communicated and delegated so that each person in the group will know what their individual responsibility will be. Remember: Know the threat, learn the basics, make the plan and communicate!
A SECOND CHANCE – WHAT IF?
Sherry was driving to pick up her two small children from the local community daycare. She lived out in the country about twenty miles from work. As she was driving, the emergency broadcast system broke in to make an announcement on her radio. The broadcast announcement indicated that an unknown terrorist group had declared war against the United States
