About this ebook

Helping kids fall in love with God and His Word as they study the Bible for themselves.

What to Wear is your kids’ journey into their truest identity—Jesus Christ!

The Apostle Paul tells us that our identity is in Christ, and we need to dress the part. All who follow Jesus—kids included—must take off and put on certain things. What to Wear is an eight-part study of these items of “clothing” Paul teaches about in Colossians 3. How do we put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, and love?

This study shows your kids how Jesus perfectly embodies these virtues and how He enables us to grow in them. Apart from Jesus Christ, our attempts to form these traits in our children will fail. Yet when tied to identity in Christ and our belonging in the church, we see the fruit of these qualities developed in our minds and hearts.

Kids are encouraged to learn algebra, science, instruments, and athletics. The goal of this study is to help our kids live into their calling to know and love Jesus by studying His Word. In this study, kids will learn the method of observation, interpretation, and application. As kids learn how to read the Bible for themselves, they’ll also grow to delight in God’s Word.

What to Wear provides the encouragement and guidance needed for your kids journey into looking like Jesus!

What to Wear - Catherine Parks

    PRAISE FOR WHAT TO WEAR

When my kids were little, it was easy to find meaningful resources for studying God’s Word, but as they hit the tween years, it became increasingly difficult to find age-appropriate studies to help them connect with others while reflecting on the Word and its power in their lives. What to Wear fills that void in every way possible. Catherine Parks uses a casual, informed voice that appeals to kids and parents alike as she points children to the Bible and a deeper understanding of godly character. My kids appreciate the practical ideas for applying and practicing each quality, and I love that Parks gives just the right amount of detail as she guides older children to delight in what we get to wear as His followers.

Teaching our kids how to walk in step with the Spirit is a critical aspect of raising the next generation. This resource is a creative, biblical, and age-appropriate tool that helps families and churches teach the truth of Colossians 3. Catherine Parks offers a faithful guide in helping kids understand what it looks like to step into their Christian faith, putting off worldliness and putting on virtue. You’ll want this Bible study for your family, your homeschool group, and your children’s ministry program!

In What to Wear, Catherine Parks offers middle grade kids a gospel-rich study they can easily access, genuinely enjoy, and meaningfully apply. My favorite part is Catherine’s approach to application. She allows Jesus’ example to settle into her young readers’ minds and then engages their imagination with age-appropriate scenarios that invite them to consider, How can I ‘put on’ this Christlike quality? I know this eight-week study will truly serve my young brothers and sisters in Christ, and I am eager to recommend it to the eight- to twelve-year-olds in my life!

    Caroline Saunders

Author of teen Bible studies Better than Life: How to Study the Bible and Like It and Good News: How to Know the Gospel and Live It

Delightful and full of depth—What to Wear is the study companion our kids need right now. It is an engaging discipleship resource that not only offers practical application for the put off, put on passages of Colossians but also teaches kids how to rightly divide the Word.
