In the common era year 318, Constantine was emperor of the Roman Empire and proclaimed that Christianity would be the religion of the empire. One of the reasons he did so was because prior to becoming emperor he led an army of soldiers into battle and told the soldiers to put a cross of Jesus Christ on their helmets. He said Jesus would help them in battle. When they were victorious, he acclaimed Jesus gained their victory. His mother Helen was a devout Christian who worshipped one God almighty. She also had deep devotion to Jesus. She searched throughout her life to find the wooden cross that Jesus was crucified on. In her later years of life she heard that the cross was in Persia. When she arrived, she embrased the cross and gave gratitude to her God for bringing her there. Then she cried out to Jesus for sacrificing his life so that her sins could be forgiven. She held the sliver of wood to her heart and said she would keep it near her heart all the years of her life.
Constantine wasn’t as devout a Christian as his mother; he did, however, tell his people that he once saw Jesus standing in
