N iko! Niko! Don’t go. Please don’t go, I cried out, thrashing in bed until I woke up from my nightmare. Heart racing, I forced myself to calm down, but it wasn’t working. I was shaking all over. Tears wet my face.

Why? Why must I be crying? I was so angry with myself. Everything was over now. Lorenzo was no longer in my life, so why must I cry like I wanted him back?

Because deep down a small part of me still thought he loved me. Deep down, I still thought he would search the world for me. Deep down, I still thought I was his beautiful maiden, that the event that had transpired between us in Chicago was just a little misunderstanding, and if he had come to find me, I would forgive him, and we would live our lives together again.

Who was I kidding? All these stupid ideals were just hopes and dreams. I should wake up from this illusion and face reality. A Mafia boss like Nikolas Lorenzo would never come waltzing back into my life and ask for forgiveness, let alone beg on his knees.

He was a prideful man and once someone had crossed him, their life would ultimately be over. I had crossed him. I had chosen my family over him.
