    WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT

    WHEN GOD SEEMS SILENT

When God Seems Silent is a great book that will be a great tool in the hands of believers. It is wholly based on biblical principles and examples interspersed with real-life situations. Christians tend to forget the sovereignty of God and therefore this book will remind us and bring us to the point where we can continue to faithfully trust God no matter what happens, knowing that God has our welfare at heart. I believe it will be a great blessing to all who get hold of it.

This book is a must for everyone who aspires to be useful and productive in the Kingdom of God. Rev. Daniel Kumi, in his book When God Seems Silent, has clearly shown how pain, trials, and persecutions built a solid foundation for the church in the apostolic age. He has diffused the idea of Christianity without pain and suffering by biblically outlining examples of great men who were refined by pain, persecution, and suffering for God. This book is a practical, to-the-point, and persuasive piece of work for the modern day church. This is a book for preparing the remnants for the second coming of Christ.

When God Seems Silent is a handy book that presents vital information about suffering, especially in the life of good people. The book answers one of life’s most challenging questions: Why do good people suffer? I therefore recommend it to everyone, most especially Christians, since suffering is inevitable in this life.

    FOREWORD

There is a tendency to perceive God as silent and unresponsive, when a believer earnestly seeks Him in prayer and does not receive answers to his or her requests. Such silence can be disturbingly frustrating and excruciating. A classic example of God's perturbing unresponsiveness to the calls of His worshippers, when it matters most, is the depressing situation of Job, a man uniquely and intimately affiliated to God. The more he cried and yearned for God in his pain and misery, the more God's deafening silence worsened his afflictions and turbulence

It is in this light that Rev. Daniel Kumi's When God Seems Silent provides avid readers and skeptics, the intensity and passion to read, probe and discover the purpose and benefits of God's silence to man. The writer draws attention to God's authoritative nature and the fact that as humans, we must recognise that He is under no obligation to answer our requests or explain the rationale behind His actions. That is why Job's uprightness and good standing could not influence His prerogative to be silent.

The analogy of every man as a farmer, who plants a specific type of crop that is harvested within a certain timeframe should enhance our understanding of God's seeming silence. Every crop has a time and season within which it grows and matures for harvesting. Some are harvested weeks after they are planted while deep rooted ones may take five and sometimes ten years to mature.

It tends to be same with the requests we submit to God. Some requests obtain immediate, while others attract long term responses.

Paradoxically, God is always present when He is absent. Sovereign and ubiquitous, He is ever present where He is deemed absent.

Realising that God gives responses in times and seasons, David, the King of Israel, writes in Psalm 62, For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.

As we read this insightful book, we must resolve to remain honest and bare our hearts before God in fear and trembling in times of His silence.

I have no reservations recommending this book to all those whose hearts get baffled with questions and frustrations with regard to occasions when God appears silent.

    Rt. Rev. Daniel K. Tannor

    (Methodist Bishop, Sunyani Diocese)

    DEDICATION

I wholeheartedly dedicate this book to Deacon Samuel Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka. You took me to your home when I once became homeless. You housed and fed me for many months. You are the epitome of the friend described in Proverbs 18:24 – a friend that sticks closer than a brother. You are part of my success story. I will never forget you...

    INTRODUCTION

There comes a time in the life of a Christian when God seems to be silent. There may come moments when God seems to be far away from us. Sometimes God seems to be distant from our calamities. In such moments, our prayers may seem unanswered. Sometimes it may even look like the more we pray, the worse our situation becomes. If you are in such condition or you have experienced such before, I wish to announce
