The Abduction - Daniel Z. Knight

Jennifer groaned as she felt herself regaining consciousness. She was still groggy and having a hard time focusing on anything. The fact that the lighting was limited didn’t help. She felt motion, but she wasn’t walking. Was she in a car? No, that didn’t make any sense. She then realized that she was being carried in someone’s arms. She tried to speak, but her tongue felt swollen to twice its normal size, and her words came out as a mumbled slur.

Suddenly, a bright light blinded her, and she tightly closed her eyes. Then, her body began to fall, and impulsively, she tried to reach out and grab something to stop her descent. She dropped only a short distance onto something soft, like a mattress. A laughing male voice reached her ears, only adding to her confusion. Who was laughing, and why?

What was going on? Why would someone laugh at her when she was in this condition? Did she need to see a doctor? Jennifer then remembered meeting friends at the pub after work. Was she drunk from drinking too much?

Someone roughly grabbed her arm, and she felt cold metal wrap tightly around her wrist.

    Ouch! she muttered.

Then her other arm was forcefully shoved into place, and metal wrapped around that wrist as well. As her eyes slowly adjusted to the light, she saw a man, a man she didn’t know.

Who are you? What the hell? she forced her uncooperative lips to say.

The man leaned over, a large, strong hand wrapped around her throat and squeezed.

This is your new home, a low, sinister voice near her ear said.

She could feel his hot breath on the side of her face. Jennifer gasped, barely able to breathe. The hand released her throat. After taking a deep breath and coughing a couple of times, the cobwebs in her brain started to clear. She hadn’t met a man at the pub. Who was he? She tried to hit him, but the metal handcuffs around her wrists held her.

What are you talking about? What do you want? she asked.

    The man didn’t respond.

    HEEELP!!! Jennifer screamed.

Scream all you want. It won’t do you any good. We’re in a basement in the Rockies, miles from the nearest person. No one will hear you.

He looked at her now tear-streaked face.

"When I saw you at the pub, I knew I had to have you. You're perfect. Fortunately, you and your friends weren’t keeping a close eye on your drinks, and when it looked like you were about to call it a night, I slipped a roofie in your wine. I followed you
