Chapter 1 : Dashing through the snow

Elly stared at the joyful lights hung in the trees while her transport crawled up the street.

For once, she wasn’t exciting to be here, or to see Cole again. Their relationship had become strained in the past weeks—past months, really. After a wonderful week at the end of the summer spent making love, enjoying long afternoons in the sun, kissing or sometimes just talking, they had agreed to give long distance a try. Their relationship had started so fast, the distance would allow them to really discover who they were and what they liked without that irresistible lust blinding them.

The first few weeks had been easy. They called each other daily. Cole surprised her at the end of September when the Resort switched into Fall mode and closed the pool. She’d visited him for Columbus Day for a whole week, since school was out on mid-break. And from there, they had started to play phone-tag.

She was the first to miss the first few calls, due to a leaking pipe just above her classroom. She had made it up with a video call on the next weekend that turned steamy because she had caught him coming out of the shower and he had realized she was still lounging in bed. Elly hadn’t realized she could be that playful and adventurous until she met Cole.

He was the one to postpone their next chat, as he was busy switching accommodations. The Resort was renovating the cottages. He sent her a long video filming the repairs and his pathetic attempts to help. Cole Summer was an Olympic Swimmer, a Lifeguard and an accomplish Statistician, but he would never be a handyman... No matter how incredibly hot he looked in a toolbelt.
