About this ebook

Ekballo is a call to service. The book talks about the end-time revival and demand to go to the harvest fields of the world. It is a short analysis of the scripture in Luke 10:2, where our Lord Jesus talked about the field white with harvest. God may need to "ekballo" people into the world to bring in the harvest.

This book is dedicated to Koyejo and Lola Amori whose bold act was a vivid example to me of allowing God to Ekballo them into the primitive mission fields of Niger Republic in the 90s when we all were supposedly pursuing career goals.

Koyejo and Lola (newly married) and fresh graduates of the great Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, defied all odds to answer the call.

    Thank you.

    INTRODUCTION

Luke 10:2 says, " Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest."

From the above text we can quickly deduce the following:

    1. The enormity of the harvest.

    2. The unavailability of willing men. And,

    3. The need for God’s intervention if we must get men involved in the harvest.

As much as the first two points are vital, the emphasis of this book is on the third point. This third point is actually the solution Jesus gave to tackle the unavailability of men for the harvesting of the nations.

What particularly caught my attention in this verse is the word used in Greek to translate the word send.

The Greek word EKBALLO was used.

EKBALLO means, To eject, expel, pull out, pluck, thrust, drive out. That is, to send forth with a notion of violence. Interestingly it's the same word used when casting out demons (Matthew 8:16), and also when Jesus drove out money changers, and those selling all sorts of things in the temple (Mark 11:15, Luke 19:45, John 2:15.)

Why would Jesus use such a strong and harsh term in addressing His people with respect to the harvesting of souls?

After all there are several other words Jesus could have used. For example:

    1. APOSTELLO - This means to send out properly on a mission. To be sent out with authority. It is the root word for Apostle.

    2. APOLUO - This is means to release, to dismiss, to free fully, and to set at liberty.

    3. PEMPO - This is to dispatch, especially on a temporary errand.

    4. EXAPOSTELLO - To send forth on a mission; to dispatch, to dismiss.

    5. METATEMPO - To summon, to invite.

At least the Lord had five other choices for the word send, but rather He chose to use the word EKBALLO.

This communicates both a sense of utmost urgency and importance God attaches to the harvesting of souls. It is the Lord's desire not one soul perishes. This is why God willingly sacrificed His beloved son so as to save the world. The Lord of the Harvest is ready to go to any length to ensure the harvest is not lost, even if it means forcefully or even violently scattering His beloved children into the field to bring in the harvest.

This suggests there is a resistance or a force holding people down from responding to the call for laborers. No wonder Jesus exhorted the disciples to seek in earnest prayers for divine intervention to tackle the scarcity of able and willing laborers for the harvest!

My prayer is that this book will stir up your heart to respond to this call, if you haven't already. I also pray it would serve to encourage those who are involved in recruiting men worldwide for this great task.
