    About the author:

How did I, as a journalist by trade, become an ‘investigative author’ in a world where everyone has an opinion and theologians fiercely argue doctrines? What drives a passion for truth, as per John 4:24?

It started in 1990. While running the Comrades ultra-marathon, I saw a small airplane dragging a message that read: ‘Come unto Me said Jesus,’ but being in a Protestant culture, it took a friend months to convince me, that like a Nicodemus, one must become born again.

A calling to write and a quest for truth caused an intensive, Berean-like, daily study of Scriptures resulted in 14 books.

I have a great, probably genetic, love for Israel. Thus, should you ask: Are you Protestant, Evangelic or Messianic? The answer is: Neither, I’m all of above!

With gratitude to those fellow believers who have prayed with and for us over many years. The plowmen opening the fallow ground for the reapers (1 Corinthians 9:10; Amos 9:13).

    Shalom, beloved in Yeshua.

    1. In whose Name?

    Answering the Jewish riddle

In whose Name do we ask?

    Peter’s revolutionary revelation

    The Messiah’s original name

Why call Me ‘Baal,’ Lord or Allah?

My people shall know My Name

Why are we encouraged to pour out our hearts and to do so with sincere, mountain-moving and fig-tree-drying faith? Why the need to be specific in asking; and to ask as if we have already received?

    1. Answering the Jewish riddle

    So, what’s the ‘Jewish Riddle’?

It is the questions in Proverbs 30:4: "Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His Name, and what is His Son’s name, if you know?"

Before answering the question about the Jewish riddle , let it be said that the Bible as God’s ‘Word,’ and especially the Gospel that was delivered in the person of Christ and through inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is of more importance than pronunciation of God’s memorial Name, which is probably why the Almighty has been so patient regarding the widespread ignorance regarding the use of His Name.

For you have magnified your Word above all your Name... (Psa. 138:2); And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory... (John 1:14); Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place, and gave Him the name above all names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Phil. 2:9-10).

First, we need to comprehend that the complete depth of meaning of ‘the Name’ is incomprehensible for man, just as the full glory of God is incomprehensible. ‘The Name’ is thus beyond comprehension, as the parents of Samson were told (Jdg. 13:17-21).

The Jews say the Name is entirely ineffable (to quote John J. Parsons), but why then the instruction: "Thou shall fear Yehovah thy God and serve Him, and shall swear by His name?" (Deu. 6:13).

The Jewish Talmud claims that the prohibition to use ‘the Name’ started when it was decreed by the Seleucid Greek tyrant Antiochus IV Epiphanes in 168 BC, but why then did the Torah-zealous Maccabee leaders not restore it after their successful revolt three years later?

The truth is that the use of the God’s memorial Name was avoided since the first Exile, as seen in the book of Daniel and other post-Babylonian writings. The historian Josephus Flavius recorded that by the end of Hasmonean rule in 37 BC, the prohibition was in full effect.

From 1 Maccabees we learn that the memorial name of God (YHVH – H3068, see page 3) was avoided by the Jews of 200 and 100 BCE, referring to ‘Heaven,’ having adopted rules prohibiting the pronunciation of ‘the Name,’ ‘haShem’ in Hebrew.

The Gospel of Matthew, which was written to the Jewish believers, exclusively referred to God as ‘the Heaven.’ This is also seen, for example, in Hebrews 8:1, referring to the Majesty in Heaven. (The usage of the ‘nomina sacra,’ the
