    Devotional - Shalom Jim

Day 1: Jesus Baptize us in the Holy Spirit

Mar 1:4-8  John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; 7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

John preaches a baptism of repentance .  Today we go from one extreme to the other.  One seems to believe that we have to repent of every sin that we have committed.  This is impossible to do.  There are sins that we don't remember and there are sins that we have committed but don't even realize that we committed them.  For example,  it took me over 60 years to realize that I was breaking the first commandment.  I was going to church every week and even more.  I was praying to God and reading the Bible everyday but I still wasn't putting God first place in my life.  I was committing Idolatry.  Now the other extreme is to come to be baptized but don't believe that you need to repent.  God loves you.  Yes God loves everyone, but everyone needs to repent.  The Pharisees believe that they didn't need to repent so John the Baptist came against them.  Repentance is saying to Jesus that we have sinned in our lives and want Jesus to come into our hearts and save us.  See how simple that is!  Too many are relying on their own strength to stop sinning.  We all need Jesus 's grace to stop sinning.

Dear Jesus!  John the Baptist was right when he said there is coming One greater that will baptize us in the Holy Spirit.  When we receive Your grace, the Holy Spirit can give life to our bodies to live righteously.  We pray for the lost to repent and receive You as their Savior.  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Shalom2U in  Jesus's  name, Amen.

Day 2: Jesus: God’s Beloved Son

Mar 1:9-13  And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. ¹⁰ And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: ¹¹ And there came a voice from heaven, saying , Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. ¹² And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness. ¹³ And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Jesus is baptized by John.  Why? Jesus didn't have any reason to repent.  He must have done it for us.  Now the Father is declaring to Jesus, thou are my beloved Son.  There are many in other religions trying to say that Jesus isn't God.  How can He not be the Son of God, if God is His Father?  Next the Holy Spirit takes Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted.  Of course Jesus passed the test.  He passed the test because He knew who His Father is.  He knew that He was the Father's beloved Son.  He knew how to rightly divide the Word of God.  Now we are tempted by the devil and we need to know the word. Who are we, and rightly divide the Word.

Dear Jesus!  Again You show us how to be a overcomer. Your Word tells us that when we receive You as our Savior, we become a child of God.  John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:  You made us a New Creation in Your image and likeness.  1Jn 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.  As we meditate on You and Your Word,  we are able to defeat the devil's temptations.  We pray for those that are being defeated by the devil's lies.  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  Shalom2U in Jesus's name Amen.

Day 3: Jesus preaches Good News

Mar 1:14-15 Now after John was imprisoned, Jesus went into Galilee and proclaimed the gospel of God. ¹⁵ He said, The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the gospel!

Believe the Gospel!  This is what Jesus proclaimed, the Gospel not bad news.  The Gospel is not the Law.  The Gospel is the Gospel of Christ and the Gospel of Grace, not the Law.  Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  We can't leave Jesus out when we are preaching the gospel.  Too many are putting in the Law and leaving Jesus out.  That's not Good News.  Yes we have to repent but we shouldn't be spending the rest of  our lives repenting.  The Good News is that Jesus will now forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If He cleanses us from all unrighteousness; then we receive His free gift of righteousness by grace through faith.  Now we declare that we are righteous in Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit will empower us to live righteously.  This is Good News.  This is the Gospel of Grace.

Dear Jesus!  Glory be to God!  We thank You Jesus for coming to save us and not condemn us.  We thank You for Your Good News and for the Gospel of Grace.  You call things that are not, as though they were.  We shall continue to declare Your righteousness in us as we are transformed from glory to glory.  We pray that many more would follow Your example and preach the Good News, the Gospel of Grace.  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  In Jesus's name,  Amen.

    Day 4: Jesus is calling

Mar 1:16-20   As he went along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon’s brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen). ¹⁷ Jesus said to them, "Follow me, and
