Diary of a Piglin Book 11 - Mark Mulle

    Day 1

Watching the news the previous day was surreal. Seeing the pictures of the five members of the Piggletin Family by the media was both shocking and terrifying.

Shocking because we thought the case of the fake Nether Dragon attacks had finally been solved. Howard Piggleborn was in jail. He faked his own death and pretended to be his nonexistent brother, named Larry Piggleborn. Howard took advantage of the Nether Dragon’s fragile reputation within Crimson City to tarnish their name.

We worked hard and we did our due diligence. We searched for clues and we did our job as detectives. We worked together as a team, and we even brought Johansson Armstrong along to provide assistance in solving the case.

In the end, we unmasked the farce behind Howard Piggleborn, and we knew for sure that the Nether Dragon attacks would cease to exist. It turned out they did not and they instead had gotten worse.

We have a house which was partially destroyed by a creature who ‘resembled’ a Nether Dragon, according to the first account witnesses; five innocent Piglins belonging to the Piggletin family are missing, with no clues as to where they were taken.

As a Consultant Detective, I know very well where this leaves us. We are in a delicate position. The inhabitants of Crimson City won’t rest until we have found a legitimate solution to the case.

This new attack comes at a terrible time, especially now that we have just announced the police department’s victory over Howard Piggleborn and his fake attacks.

Moments after being arrested, Howard Piggleborn gave us a curious statement. He said to all of us present that he wasn’t the mastermind – the true criminal was still out there, and we would find out sooner or later that Howard was right all along.

Right about what? Does Howard know who or what is behind this new attack? Does he have anything to do with the new attack itself? I could only imagine what Howard knew but I would have to ask him in person. For now, we must endure the public pressure. The citizens of Crimson City won’t be happy to know that we failed.

We tried but we failed. The Piggletins must be rescued somehow and Detective Kelly will be in charge of this new case. The citizens won’t take it lightly against her and against my Dad, who are the ‘heads’ of our current administration.

As for me and Peter, this case concerns us as much as it does everyone else. Everyone’s job is at stake here, more importantly our reputation. Everything we have worked for and everything we have done for this town could all go down the drain if we fail to rescue the Piggletin family.

Not only that but we had to find a name and put it on the newspapers everywhere. The true name of the culprit behind the attacks. Howard Piggleborn? I highly doubt it. How could a Piglin commit another crime behind bars?

Maybe there is someone from the Anti-Dragon Association behind it all. My head is spinning right now as I write this. I cannot rest until we have found the truth.

Calvin, are you home? It was Peter. He knocked on the door of my apartment.

Oh, hi there, I opened the door.

I just came to check on you. After everyone left the barbecue, you seemed quite off. Peter said. I know the news about the new attack must be driving you crazy. Would you like to talk about it?

I don’t know if I want to talk about it or forget it, at least for tonight. You know, I won’t sleep properly. This thing will keep me up at night. I replied. I was tired, my eyes were heavy, and my soul was restless.

I know. I am feeling the same way. Peter replied. I know we should all go to sleep and be prepared to start investigating the case tomorrow, but I simply can’t do it. I cannot close my eyes and lie down on my bed knowing full well that a family of five Piglins is missing. They are being kept prisoners by someone or something.

True. But again, going to work now would do us no good. We must leave it to the officers on the night shift. I know Sal and Zimmer are doing a great job. We should find a way to sleep, rest our heads and then proceed to the field tomorrow. It’s going to be a long day.

I’ll tell you what, Calvin, I think it’s going to be a long week. Not even counting on the possibility of dragging this case over the entire month.

Oh gosh, that would be terrible. I cannot even think of that possibility. Saving the family is my priority right now. We can think of the perpetrator and the criminal afterwards. Anyway, I guess I feel better now that I have spoken to you. At least I know I am not the only one who’s thinking like this.

Definitely not. You aren’t the only one. I bet your father, mother, Detective Kelly, Johansson, and most likely all citizens of Crimson City who watched the news must be thinking the same – we all just want them safe and sound. I am sure we will figure this out, like we always do… Peter said.

Yeah, I hope so. I replied.

Anyways, thanks for the chat. I’m off now because I also need some sleep. See you tomorrow. We will crack this case.

    We will. I said.

I closed the door and went back to my room. Peter was right – there was no use in getting all worked up over the case at that moment. It would only make things worse. I had to get a good night of sleep and be prepared for the investigation.

Johansson returned to the Overworld after the barbecue because he wanted to tell Beatriz about this new case as to not worry her. He would return to the Nether and assist us as soon as possible. However, I told him that he had already done more than enough and he should get back to his own projects, and we should not slow him down.

Is he coming back to help? I don’t doubt it knowing Johansson like I do. But again, I don’t want to cause him any trouble. He has his own obligations and responsibilities back in his home world. We must solve this case by ourselves. Moreover, we must do it quickly.

    Day 2

I woke up this morning fully determined to solve the new case. I was no longer sad or disappointed. I was anxious to get to work as soon as possible. The only thought I had in my mind was solving this new mystery. The family of five Piglins deserved to be rescued after all.

I headed out to the police station and I met Peter along the way, which is rare, considering we always get at the station at different times.

    Morning, Calvin, He greeted me.

Morning, ready to get started? I asked him.

Absolutely. I cannot wait to for this to come to an end. We must save those innocent Piglins, and fast.

I couldn’t agree more, my friend. I replied.

We picked up our stuff at the police station and headed out to the crime scene. Officer Tenpen was the one in charge of the area for the day.

Greetings Detectives, it is good to see you here. Tenpen said.

Hi Officer Tenpen, how’s it going?

I’m really tired, honestly. I’ve been up here all night long, taking care of the place, making sure no one approaches it. Tenpen replied.

You can go now, buddy. Stop at the station and send Sal to take over your shift, and then go home to rest. You earned it. I replied.

Thank you, and good luck. Tenpen left the scene.

From the outside of the house, it looked perfectly normal. There was no indication of forcible entry. The house’s entrance was intact so we opened the door and entered.

Here we are. Let’s take a good look around.

Equipped with our magnifying glasses, we searched the house and looked for further evidence. The living room had no damage, neither did the kitchen. The bathroom seemed fine too. We headed upstairs to check on the rooms.

The first room we found was normal. However, the second room was heavily damaged. Even before reaching the door, we could smell the burned wood and the smoke.

Detective, I think that’s the room where everything happened. Peter exclaimed.

We entered the second room and it was almost completely burned up. Most of the exterior wall was torn apart, the rooftop was gone, and there wasn’t a window anymore. The only remains were the bed, the
