About this ebook
Lies are powerful. God’s Truth is stronger.
Graphic novel meets meaty Bible teaching in Lies Boys Believe, helping boys identify lies and replace them with Truth so they can stand firm in a fractured world.
Jason and Erin Davis—parents to four boys—use witty storytelling and playful graphics to present solid biblical truth to combat the most common lies boys believe. With easy-to-read chapters, this book focuses on ten core lies:
- Loving God Is for Girls
- God is Mad at Me
- It’s Not My Fault
- No One Needs to Know About My Sin
- I Can’t Control My Temper
- It Doesn’t Matter What I Watch
- Reading the Bible Isn’t for Me . . . and more.
Through the Davis’ fictional and humorous stories, your son will begin to trade the lies he’s believed for the truth God intends. He will learn to swim upstream against the tides of deception and be equipped to recognize future lies as he develops a passion for knowing and living God’s Word.
Join him in the battle by using the accompanying tool: A Parent’s Guide to Lies Boys Believe. This companion resource invites you to critically examine the lies boys believe, discover how to strengthen and encourage your son, and employ creative and practical tools for ongoing discussion.

MEET YOUR GUIDES!
To read this page, turn your book to the right one quarter turn. (For most eReader devices, be sure to turn Auto Rotate
off in your settings. For iOS devices, turn Portrait Orientation Lock
on).
You are about to set out on an exciting adventure, a quest to discover the treasures buried in your Bible—God’s Word. Any new and challenging expedition requires a guide. Good news! You’ve got four guides for this journey!
First, if you are a follower of Jesus, you’ve got the Holy Spirit! He is God Himself living inside of you (amazing, we know!). His job is to help you understand the Bible and obey it. He is always with you (Matthew 28:20), and He will never leave you or give up on you (Hebrews 13:5). Any time you come to something that is hard to understand in this book, stop and ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom. P.S. Being a follower of Jesus means more than just going to church or thinking Jesus was a great guy. John 3:16 tells us, This is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Do you believe in Jesus and that God loves you? Do you believe Jesus died so that you wouldn’t have to perish in your sin? Have you asked Jesus to be the King of your life? If you’re not sure, talk to an adult like a parent or a pastor at your church. This is the most important thing you can do in your life.
Second, you’ve got godly grown-ups. Whether it’s your mom, dad, grandma, paw-paw, friend, or pastor, there is a big person in your life who loves you. (They probably bought you this book!) They may even be reading A Parent’s Guide to Lies Boys Believe and learning right alongside you. Talk to them about what you’re discovering and don’t be afraid to ask them questions.
Finally, you have us, Jason and Erin Davis. We are the parents of four wild and wonderful boys! We wrote this book because we love them and because we love to see boys like you running away from lies and living out God’s Truth!
If we could, we would have you over to our farm. You could pet a cow, chase a chicken, or pick a peach straight from our orchard. We might plan a hayride. We’d definitely roast some marshmallows! And we’d share how much God has done for us—and for you—so you’d be excited to experience knowing Him. This book is the next best thing.
This is a lie-busting, Truth-telling, fun-having book. Don’t just read it! Work with it. Here are some ways to do that:
1. Read it with your Bible close by. This book is important. God’s book is more important!
2. After you read each chapter, go back to the Contents page at the beginning of the book. Take a big, red marker and write over each lie, Busted!
(Yes! We want you to write in this book!) This is another way you can express that you know God’s Truth is worth standing on and you’re not going to let lies have a hold on your life. To print off the Contents page, go to www.moodypublishers.com/978-0-8024-2936-0. Scroll down to the Free Resources
tab to access the download.
The most important way to read this book is to HAVE FUN! Being a follower of Jesus is the most exciting adventure you’ll ever be on. Enjoy it!
Let’s roll,
Jason and Erin Davis
THE ADVENTURE BEGINS!
Shotgun!
Lenny and Thomas King yelled the word at the exact same nanosecond. Each boy glanced at the vehicle parked just a stone’s throw away in their gravel driveway. Then they looked each other square in the eye and squinted—like two cowboys preparing for a showdown—each brother daring the other to make the first move. Then they took off running!
The finish line was the polished chrome handle on the passenger side of the van they’d be spending the next two weeks riding in. Lenny got there first, just a step ahead of his younger brother. The boys spun their arms and threw their elbows in a familiar struggle to pry the door open.
Lenny triumphed and hopped into the front passenger seat. He buckled himself in and stuck out his tongue at his brother.
You rode shotgun last time,
Thomas huffed.
Fair is fair,
Lenny replied, hitting the button to roll up the window.
Accepting his defeat, Thomas slid open the side door and climbed into the van. He flopped into the back seat behind his brother and crossed his arms over his chest.
From their seats in the van, the boys could see their parents standing close together on the front porch. Dad hugged Momma and their little brother
