    Dark Intensity - Liv Honeywell

    Chapter One

Waitress! The man clicked his fingers impatiently and Cally Wilson groaned silently. Not him again. Everyone was already run off their feet with Peter, their head waiter, off sick and far more customers than they usually got on a Tuesday lunch time. She was already covering two areas as well as trying to manage front of house.

And they were expecting the famous food critic, Norman Fullerton, at any moment. Cally felt her stomach flip with nerves and excitement at the thought of getting a review from such a well-known and trusted name in the business. But then she turned back to her customer and managed to hide a sigh. Dealing with someone so difficult was the last thing she needed on top of everything else.

Yes, you there, the man clicked his fingers at her again.

Cally summoned a smile, One moment, Sir. I’ll finish pouring coffee and then I’ll be right with you.

The man tutted loudly and rolled his eyes. Cally smiled at the couple in front of her and topped up their coffees, then turned to face her nemesis, pad in hand.

How can I help you, Sir?

Both the man and his wife glared at her. Finally, he said. Now, young lady. My son doesn’t want anything on the menu for children. He wants a full English breakfast.

I’m sorry, Sir, but we’ve been so busy today that we sold out of breakfast, and with so many people still arriving, chef has asked us to stick to the menu.

The man sat back in his seat, with a loud harrumphing sound, and folded his arms over his not inconsiderable stomach. His son copied his father, and Cally had to hide a smile.

So, you’re not going to do anything about this?

I’m afraid I can’t, Sir. We do have some very nice options on the children’s menu, or your son can choose from the adult menu if he’d like. We will happily make him a smaller portion.

The man’s eyebrows made a break for his receding hairline. Smaller portion? Small–. He
