DEDICATION
To my children. I hope that I trained you well enough to survive the world, even when resources were limited. I hope that I raised you on the road well enough to thrive on planet Earth. Home is here and now.
To strangers who showed the way regardless of language limitations.
To strangers who helped lift our luggage and walked away without waiting for our ‘thank you’ or even smiles.
To strangers who said, It’s in the house
, or This one is free
without asking anything in return.
To strangers who stood up against catcalls and harassment on the street.
To strangers who used the words dear,
darling,
‘hun’, and love
, and gave random compliments on the streets. You had no clue about the effect of those kind words on a mum who was in a messy divorce settlement.
To the government bodies of countries that managed wonderful museums, science centres, zoos, and parks for the children to learn. And to their wonderful staff, who understood that mums sometimes need to take a breathing time alone or a weeping cry time in the loo.
And lastly, to our team members who have been walking with me even in the darkest moments of my life.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
My children and I started to travel together during my divorce process. In the beginning, my plan was to travel with them across my birth country. As it turned out, we had the opportunity to travel even further and beyond the borderline.
At the time, I worked at a pilot school, so concession tickets were not something regular. We did, however, get a lot of support and resources from different parties along the way. Some of them will be mentioned in this publication. And most of that support was unexpected. We didn’t even believe we were getting any support from any of them.
Working at the pilot school at the time gave me the advantage of scheduling and planning ahead of time. This book might be beneficial mostly for homeschooling parents who work remotely. It can be a useful blueprint for travelling full time as a family. Though your annual leave might be limited, it’s important to give your body a rest at the time of arrival at the destination and at the time you arrive home.
Depending on the purpose of your travel, the pace needs to be adjusted accordingly. On a limited employee’s annual leave, it’s common to keep up the city count. It is possible to have the urge to hop into as many cities as possible. But will it be the best practise for your family? We are not trying to prove anything to anyone, but each family is different from the others. Anyone judging one family is one thing, but judging yourself for fulfilling the expectations of other people will add another level of headache to your family travel. I’ve learned it
