About this ebook

Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. This is the true reality of Praise, born to a powerful vocalist, songwriter/high school teacher, and A renowned orthopaedic surgeon in Australia. with a talented mind able to make and interpret sounds, beats, and tunes from a very tender age, music was everything to Praise. It has been said, 'time heals all wounds.' this book is an illustration that some wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers it with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone. Praise had a scar of his own, melted to his heart with guilt, fear, and anger over the loss of his mother, but for every end of a dark tunnel, there is a light.

    CHAPTER ONE

Driving home with much expectation, as he did in years past, he wished that he’d get home to meet a better side of his son. They’d celebrate his birthday together with so much joy and vigor. He thought of how heavenly it felt with Whitney around, the happiness that fills the house with her presence, the smell of freshly baked pancakes and fried chips, and a huge cake to mark the occasion. He reminisced about events that took place years before—the smiles on their faces, the songs they sang, how they played instruments as they sang the regular birthday rhymes—and smiled. If only Whitney was around. He thought. He was heartbroken because he missed her so much.

Mr. Victor Martins was a well-known doctor in Brisbane Queensland, Australia. He graduated as one of the top medical students of the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Orthopedics, a combined study with courses on the maintenance and repairs of the structure of the human bone, from the great Swansea University situated in Wales. Victor had majored in many successful repairs of bone and joint disorders through surgical means. After graduation, he was recruited to Queensland children's hospital as a resident surgeon. Due to his good, extreme show of talent, care, and attention to both patients and colleagues in the hospital, the hospital Board of Directors decided to retain him as a full-time orthopedic surgeon where he continued to save and help lives.

On a fateful day, after attending to one of his patients and was done with his shift, he rushed out to get a cab and he bumped into Whitney. The box she held fell from her hands and the contents scattered all over the place. Whitney was a beauty. Despite her hipster looks, her beauty and smile were evident. She bent to pick up her things with a warm smile. It was a box full of comic books, an iPod and a big headset. Victor, UNCAGED ECHO

overwhelmed by emotions, was forced to help her up with the box and the contents that were in it.

Whitney: Oh you don’t have to bother. I’ll be fine.

Victor: Please let me help. It’s the least I can do.

Whitney: Well, I noticed you were in a hurry. Trying to catch a cab, I presume.

Victor: Yeah but I guess we bumped into each other because fate wants me to be acquainted with a beautiful lady like you. I don’t want it to look like I’m poking my nose into your business, but you must like fiction a lot. You have so many comic books in there. Looks like you live in them.

Whitney: ( Laughs out loud). Oh no, Doc. It belongs to one of my students.

Victor: How did you know I am a doctor?

Whitney: Hello, you still have your coat and ID on.

Victor: Oh! Hope you don't mind if I walk you down to see this student of yours? He must mean a lot to you.

Whitney: Yes, he does. He is one of my best piano students, so dedicated to music. I teach him music, so I count it as my responsibility to help him recover in time, and not feel alone. His colleagues and friends have helped him to create a podcast of classes he has missed. The comic books are for him, to keep him entertained. I am not a fan of fiction at all, Doc. Let’s talk reality. ( Smiles) Victor: Oh, I see. Well, my name is Victor Martins. I’m the…

    Whitney: The Surgeon.

    UNCAGED ECHO

Victor: How did you know that? Don’t tell me you are a psychic. Or are you a Sherlock Holmes kind of person? ( Laughs).

Whitney: No. Each time I visit this hospital, I hear the nurses’ gossip about the charming Doctor Victor. The doctor most of the single patients wish they could have, and spend the rest of their lives with. They were right about it all after all.

Victor: Come on… I’m not all that charming. Thanks for the compliment, anyway. You are Miss…?

Whitney: Whitney Caleb. Just call me Whitney.

Victor: Can I walk with you to see your student?

Whitney: You have done enough, Doc.

Victor: Nah Nah, I don’t think you get to be pushed away easily (He insists). I never give up either. It's either you allow me to come with you or I’m keeping the iPod and the headset.

Whitney: Fine. You win Doc. Shall we? ( Points her hand towards the direction leading to the room her student was).

With smiles plastered on their faces, they went to the teenage ward, where they saw young Micah who welcomed them with a warm smile.

Micah was a gentle-spirited type of person. He didn’t speak much
