    Sunrise - Elisabeth Widell

    I. MOONLIGHT

    The Savannah

    ___

    Every word dissipated

    Every thought pixelated

The inner workings of your mind obscured by fog,

    such a cynical monologue

Orange suns radiate vast lands beneath

Lions move with stealth, never conceding defeat

When disturbed by piercing whispers they flee into the

    tall grass

Tan coats blend and hastily amass

There is no violence in these orange tones

    Stillness forms the very cornerstones

    of this wall,

    murals enthrall

    Neurons rest beneath the crust

When skies weep, lions retreat in disgust

    Basking in summer heat

Sharp edged teeth drip of conceit

Every night they wonder who extinguished the fire

The fierce desire they so admire

Jaded manes lay to rest on the cool grass

Whispers are telling, there are cracks in this hourglass

    Cracks brush against protective fur

When the time comes, lava will spur

    Spit out an unpleasant truth

An impending end to a finite youth

    Ecoanxiety

    ___

What is a forest but a sea of hope

    Scaling the skies

Holding our world in its palms

    What are men
