About this ebook

Life was smooth sailing and quite normal up until my mom Janis was killed in a car accident heading from Santa Cruz California to Carmel when I was 11 years old. After her death, life changed drastically from a nice gentle breeze to a category five tornado; an inferno of drugs, lies and alibis. Let’s just say… No more smooth sailing. When the dust began to settle at the age of 24, I enlisted in the United States Navy and set sail for a better life and once again it was smooth sailing.

Here are some of my experiences, thoughts, and photographs of my artwork which I use as a way to process my childhood traumas.

Processing as I stack stones and transfer the negative energy into a beautiful piece of work giving it life; it lives then eventually dies, taking the negative energy with it.

I hope you feel something from these pages within.

David Pollock

David Pollock is a second-generation pastoralist from Wooleen Station in the Murchison region of Western Australia. He took over the 153,000-hectare property when he was 27, and was soon joined by his now wife Frances as they embarked on a quest to transform Wooleen into a sustainable grazing enterprise. They run a station-stay tourism business to help pay for repairing the ecological damage caused by historic overgrazing, and have appeared on the ABC TV’s Australian Story program four times. David loves Frances, palatable perennial grass, Wooleen, their four kelpies, and happy cows. In that order.

    Acknowledgment

    Thank God for the strength, wisdom, and ability to share, care, and love.

    ‘Smooth sailing’ first rough draft but I had to share… I was in tears writing this one multiple times…

    Warm sun so full of life,

    Blue jeans, blue eyes, blue skies, blue oyster cult playing over the radio waves…

    Smooth sailing,

    Smooth sailing…

    Countless stars flood the night;

    Gentle breeze, dancing, laughing, loving;

    Leather jacket, parachute pants, boom box with a cassette and long feathered hair;

    Friday night spinning the 33 vinyl playing truth or dare…

    Blending in, part of the herd, skim boarding, sunbathing…even good grades…

    Smooth sailing…

    Lost, shattered, torn, thrashed, mangled, turmoil crashes upon life’s shores; unforeseen, unexpected, an unwelcome loss that nobody prepared us for.

    This was not in any textbook at school…
