Rock and a Hard Place - Michelle C. Bennett

The tidbit before the book begins…

So, as I sit here writing this book, I think how incredibly unqualified I am. I haven’t written anything more than research papers in college. I never went to seminary school or even led a Sunday School class in church. I’ve never preached or spoken on the Bible with large groups. I have, however, volunteered to teach VBS when my daughter was little, and I did take some religious classes in college. Not any of those qualify me to write this at all. But I felt led to write this. It is as if I already knew the words in their order, and just needed to get them on paper as fast as I could. Plus, the Bible is full of imperfect, highly unqualified people that have done the most perfect, amazing miracles for His glory. If God can use all of them, then maybe, just maybe, He can use me too. I hope you enjoy this writing. I kept it shorter than most books. I didn’t want anyone who feels they aren’t a reader to feel overwhelmed or never finish it. I wanted to reach as many people as possible and for them to get to the end of it to get the most out of it.

With that said, here goes nothing.

My whole life I have had these in-depth detailed plans. I don’t remember a time not having a plan or idea of what I was going to do next or the goal of the season in my life. I had plans for the day, plans for the week, plans for the month, year, five years, ten years and so on. I had a plan for my plans in case those plans failed. No matter how the plan went, there was a plan for that fork in the road. With that being said, I also struggle with anxiety. Plans can be overwhelming and a lot of pressure for a person.

When I was in high school, I started having these moments. I’d first get really hot, turn red, and break out into a sweat. Like, I just full on ran a marathon in the summer in Florida, sweat. My heart would start racing. Then I’d feel like an elephant was sitting on my chest. It was hard to catch my breath. It would last minutes. It happened anywhere, church, home, store, etc. The place didn’t matter, but the moment was the same. I’d imagine it felt like having a heart attack, but that is speculation since I’ve never had an actual heart attack. Thank the Lord.

This was the same time John Q came out on TV. Now, if you don’t know of this movie, let me tell you about it.

It starred Denzel Washington. He was a father of a young son with a heart problem. The son needed a transplant, but insurance and assistance did not cover the cost of the surgery. Shocker. The boy was going to die.

So, naturally, Denzel Washington took the hospital hostage to get his son fixed. Of course, right? What wouldn’t a father do in this situation? Any means necessary to save his child. Prison is a small price to pay in exchange for your child to live.

Well, my mother decided to watch this movie during the time of my moments.

Not a good idea. Definitely not a good idea.

I did, however, get to go to the best cardiologist for testing. Also, got to wear a heart monitor. Twice. Super fun as
