There’s an expectation that is slapped onto everyone’s life: get an education, get a job, get a spouse, have some kids and then…

I’m not saying I bought into this idea, but it’s pretty much what most people expect. I don’t think anyone ever advocated marrying someone you love and then the two of you finding a third to bring into your lives as another partner.

It was fucking complicated.

The short version was that the lease on Danni’s apartment was up and the landlord was jacking up the rent. She already had a roommate. Another roommate would have made the already tiny apartment impossibly small and there really wasn’t a place for a third person to live.

The house that Katrina and I owned, however, had a spare bedroom in addition to the space we used as a home office. Plus our bedroom had the gigantic king-sized bed. 

Danni was spending most of her time at our house anyway. 

She was our third.

Of course we said yes to her moving in.

The hard part was going to be explaining it to other people. The easy cover story was that she was just renting a room from us. The story we had been using for the past few months was that Danni was a good friend of Kat (not exactly a lie) and they just spent an inordinate amount of time together because none of us had family in the immediate area.

So we moved Danni into our house.
