Eve - Yiorgos Maraziotis
Chapter 1: The Hospital
She opened her eyes. She didn't know where she was. Everything around her indicated that she was in a hospital room, but she couldn't know for sure. She was lying on a bed; a metal bed with white covers, like the ones found in hospitals or clinics. That was the first clue which made her think that she was indeed in a hospital room.
Then, there were the lights. Bright lights. The ones that make your eyes hurt. She raised her arms while still lying on the bed. She examined them carefully. Everything seemed normal. There wasn’t any IV equipment attached on them, or any puncture marks whatsoever. She didn't feel any kind of pain in her body. She felt healthy.
She slowly sat up on the hospital bed. She was afraid that any movement could be dangerous to her, cause her pain or maybe something worse. However, she didn't feel a thing. She appeared to be absolutely fine. She tried to stand up. If she struggled to do so maybe it was proof that she had been in that bed for a long time, since she had no idea how or why she had ended up there.
She looked next to her. There was a button there; the kind that patients use to call the hospital staff. She pressed it once, but to no avail. She waited a few moments before pressing it again, while trying to pick up the slightest sound that would testify to any sign of life since, not only the room, but the entire floor she was on, appeared to be deserted. She hadn't explored it yet. It was more of a hunch, born from the lack of any noise that would indicate human activity.
She walked around the room a bit. She didn't feel dizzy, so she guessed she hadn't been lying in that bed for too long. Maybe she was only there for a day. Who could have known? Certainly not her. No matter how hard she tried to remember anything that might help, it was futile. She had no recollection of anything, not even her own name. It was as if her memory was somehow erased.
She timidly glanced out of the room she was in. The corridor seemed empty. There was no staff, no other patients; just her. There were several rooms on both sides
