FATHER’S SON
A man approaching his 70s sits comfortably in an ergonomic chair in a well-furnished living room, legs crossed with a wide grin at the TV blasting loudly directly in front of him. He looks somewhat happy, with a grimace of mischief. Whatever smirk materializes on his face with every passing moment, reveals his tendencies to be canny, but he appears capable of concealing his character defect.
The movie he’s watching nears its climax and throws him off balance. He slouches forward with his eyes locked on the TV screen. He denies paying attention to everything going on around him as he rubs his hands together to shake off the cold climbing up his spine.
Out of the shriveling disturbance of his phone buzzing next to him, the old man darts to his side and glances at his screen, bleeping with a familiar caller ID. It’s his assistant, and he never expected her to call this late. It’s far off her duty, and he has warned her ever since her employment never to call at night except in cases of emergency. Without a doubt, he could see it was one of those rare cases.
He pauses the movie and relaxes on his chair as he picks up the phone and receives the call.
Hello,
his patched voice mutters over the call. Why are you calling me now?
He stares intently as she responds, and with each passing second, he spends listening, his anger morphing into fear and worry, his heart palpitating, and his lips trembling as she speaks.
Are you sure of this?
he asks, biting his lips and curling his toes. Is this on the news?
The caller’s response to his question was precise and sharp, and he instantly urged more questions, building in his gut. Do you know where he is now?
Another sharp, audible response.
"Thank you, Sarah. Try to contain it and get the damage control team on board ASAP. This mustn’t blow out of its proportion, he urges his assistant and hangs up.
He prances to his feet and mutters to the AI encoded in his home system. Call my son now!
Alright, sir,
Erys hurriedly puts a call through.
In the pitch darkness of the western horizon, a slick black sports car winds down an asphalt road towards the city lights, blasting loud music as he swerves past the slow cars on his path and intermittently slamming his hands on the honk. He once had the fear of being involved in accidents, but he soon found an escape route from his fears—music. Ever since he learned how much music threw him in comfort, he has
