The Jar Spells Compendium - Justine J. Scott
INTRODUCTION
A spell is sealed inside a jar, bottle, or another container in many ancient magic traditions, notably in North America. This serves many functions, the first is to keep the power focused and prevent it from leaving before the spell is completed. Another advantage of a jar or bottle spell is mobility; you may bury it under a doorway, tuck it into a hollow tree, lay it softly on your mantle, or drop it into a port-a-john.
Short history
Because of the long and dispersed history of the use of these types of spells in magic (often in traditions with little connection to one another, operating under slightly different frameworks in terms of the philosophies behind the creation and movement of magic), the goals and application of these types of spells vary greatly. Witch Bottles are said to have been used to achieve a variety of aims, even among the oldest recorded instances of these artifacts unearthed from Britain alone. The Witch Bottles hidden into the doorframes, hearth-halls, and walls of Britain's historical buildings did more than only guard against the curses of the terrible witches said to haunt the hills of the Cotswolds. They also worked as treatments for ailments that medicine could not yet treat, offerings to the spirits of the land on which the house stood, blessings for a new home, and entrapments for unwelcome spirits.
It is unknown who constructed the Witch Bottles that were discovered in Pennsylvania and Virginia during the American Civil War. We do know, however, that these bottles were most likely designed to ward off bad spirits (based in part on their contents). It's unclear if they were ghosts they thought were the product of someone else's curse, spirits of the dead that the American soldiers didn't want to be troubled by, or some other spirit already linked with the site where these brutal conflicts took place. What is apparent is that the American adaption of the English Witch Bottle, as well as the incorporation of the Bottle Tree into Appalachian folklore, originates from a firmly held conviction in the country's spirit-centered mythology.
Honey Jar and Vinegar Bottle spells are significantly more versatile in their uses (due to the fact that they are part of a living magical folk tradition, which has been continuously building and innovating on their foundations over time). The fundamental concept behind the Honey Jar technique is to modify a situation by sweetening it. This might be used to make someone more inclined to give you anything you requested (as might be the case when applying for a new job, applying to rent a house, or reaching a divorce settlement). It might also be used to persuade someone to treat you better, whether it's an in-law who doesn't care about you, an ex who won't return your belongings, or someone who gossips about you. Honey Jar Spells can be utilized as love charms, friendship spells, peace spells, and house blessing spell due to the breadth of their application (just to name a few).
Vinegar Bottle spells take a different approach to issue solving. They are deployed to cause disruption, wreak chaos, and turn a person's situation against them. Although Vinegar Bottles are generally known as Break-Up Spells, they can be used for various purposes other than the breakdown of a relationship. Variations of the vinegar Break Up Bottle can put impediments in the target's path, execute destructive magic, drive someone out of someone's life, or even as a Death Unto My Enemies
(D.U.M.E.) spell.
Spell jar
Jar spells, also known as bottle spells or container spells, are a type of folk magic that spans back many centuries. While this type of magic is most commonly associated with cursing and curse-breaking, it is not limited to baneful magic. In love magic, for example, the Hoodoo 'honey jar spell' is prevalent. Overall, the jar spell is adaptable and may be tailored to meet a number of requirements.
Note: If you prefer to use magical time, you may find for the most powerful day and planetary hour to strengthen your spell.
How to Cast a Jar or Bottle Spell:
Define Your Intent
Select a Container
Choose Your Jar's Contents
Fill Your Jar
Seal Your Jar
Meditate on Your Intent
Finish Your Spell
Define Your Intent
The first and most reasonable step in a jar spell is to describe your objective. Everything in your spell will center around your goal.
Your goal, as is customary in magic, should be:
Specific: Concentrate on specific objectives (i.e., no wishing, no generalizing, no multi-purpose spells for 12 different things).
Realistic: Make sure your objectives are feasible (no Dungeons & Dragons or Harry Potter fantasy stuff).
Ethical: I'm not trying to tell you what's ethical or what isn't, but you should think about your spiritual ethics and the consequences of your acts.
Once you've decided on your goal, you may start planning your jar spell, including everything you'll need to put in it to fulfill your goal.
Choose a Container for Your Jar Spell
Essentially, any jar may be utilized to cast a spell. I'll state that I'm not a huge fan of plastic containers, although there are differing views on their efficacy. Although many use clay and other materials, I favor glass. You're good to go as long as it has no cracks and a tight-fitting lid or cork. Scrounge around the house or thrift stores for a suitable bottle. Anything from mason jars to baby food jars to mayo or pickle jars to old salad and oil bottles can be used.
Note: Cleanse and consecrate the container you'll be using and all of the goods you'll be filling it with.
Paint Your Jar (Optional)
You can paint your jar in a color that relates to your intention or with symbols and images if you want to. This isn't required, but any little assistance can help—plus, it protects anybody who comes across your jar from seeing the contents.
Choose Your Jar Spell Contents
The meat of this amazing act is deciding on the contents. It is important to pick goods that will help you achieve your ultimate magical goal.
I enjoy choosing items from the following categories:
A Personal Item
Your spell will require a photograph, hair, nail clippings, blood, or another personal object. A name printed on paper might also be used. This should be an image, thing, or name of the person you're casting a spell on—for example, if you're casting a spell on yourself, you'd use your own photo, item, or name. You would use their portrait, name, or object if performing the magic for a friend or on someone else (for example, a spell to get a bully to leave you alone).
Written Intent or Prayer
Because words have a lot of power, I usually find it beneficial to write my intention on anything and put it in the jars. If you want to enlist the help of a god in your jar magic, you can write them a message wanting their help.
Liquids
The container should, in general, contain some liquid, but whatever liquid you choose depends on your goals.
Urine is used for curse-breaking jars and protection jars, but it can also be used to cast manipulative spells on others.
Vinegar is commonly used to curse or injure individuals, as well as to spoil anything. Note: Because vinegar jars might burst, don't fill them to the brim and cover them in fabric or towels (unless you're burying them).
When you wish to persuade someone or anything, you use honey, sugar water, or some form of nectar. This is because you'd want to sweeten their temperament if you wanted to gain friends, be more persuasive, heal damaged sentiments, and so on.
When you want to eliminate negativity or malicious creatures, or when you want to start
