THE BACKDROP

To every dynamic, captivating story there is an equally informative, dynamic backstory. Here’s mine; or at least a portion of it. For a fuller, deeper understanding, like many of you, I am definitely the person who digs deeper to fully understand the context and conditions surrounding a particular matter. Prior to delving into the transformative insights presented in this impactful book, I feel it is essential to grant you a glimpse into the environment that shaped my parenting journey and the development of Prophetic Parenting.

The 1980’s was an incredibly eventful decade where there were significant technological, political, and economic shifts along with major medical advances. The Space Shuttle lifts off in 1981 and the Berlin Wall falls in 1989. The IBM personal computer is released, the AIDS Epidemic became recognized and Global Warming became well known. The 80’s were riddled with wars as well, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Lebanon war, and the First Intifada in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Islamism became a powerful, political force in the 1980’s giving way too many terrorist organizations sprouting up. Gene Therapy, Designer Babies, and gestational surrogacy all made their first appearances in the 80’s. The creation of the internet, video games, and music videos were also introduced to our global community. Michael Jackson became a global icon. Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, and Madonna soared to popularity as well. My children were being born at a time when the world was changing dramatically and I would need to prepare them not only to survive but to thrive in this new, ever-changing
