About this ebook
Everyone is born transparent - no skin, only see through. The government required it. However, a group, called The Skinners, found a way to color skin - black, white, tan, or other. Anyone joining the Skinners is shunned by the government and hunted by the police. Connor had a normal, middle school teenage life, until one night, he runs into a Skinner during an annual Festivus event. He was hoping to see Kara, his love interest, but instead gets recruited to the Skinners gang. Before long, he is on the run with Kara from the police. In the end, they have to find a way to survive. (approx. 5,400 words)

About the Author
True Colors
Two hours before the Annual Festivus event kickoff. Connor’s bedroom. Early evening.
Clothes are such a magical thing. Many take them for granted these days, but I don’t. They hide everything – my organs, bones, and even all the juices circulating inside.
Looking in the mirror, the costume concealed all of it tonight. Even if dressing up like a made-up creature was a one-night gig, it still made me feel safe, almost hidden. The fact that we were all born with transparent skin never grew on me. Some liked it, but I didn’t.
Stop it, Connor. Your thoughts may get you in trouble!
It was almost dinner time. Part of me was excited for tonight. The annual Festivus was a single night event where everyone was finally allowed to cover up their bodies. During the rest of the year, no clothes were allowed. That was the government’s mandate before I was born. My parents never told me why, just a bunch of that’s- the-way-it-is type of answers
