    Foreword

    Donald W. Clemons, Jr.

God, Where’s Daddy? is a memoir written by Sophia Renee Clemons about her life and the people, mostly family, who inspired her to become the person she is today.

In this raw, inspring book, she lives through the memories and expresses her feelings about events in her life and things that she is still discovering about people in her circle: loved ones and positive role models whose shoulders she stands on today. Sophia and I met five years ago at our church block party. I noticed that every step she took was sure and confident. Other times, I noticed how she was attentive and compassionate to the elderly and her mother that she was caring for. I know her now as having the same strong compassion for her children and other family members. You can tell she loved being around God’s people at church, and was always willing to encourage those in the community. Watching her at our neighborhood church block party and how she was always a willing vessel for God’s children, I knew she was going places. God has given her the gift not only to write, but to teach. You could tell that her spirit and love for God’s people was high. I have to admit I am very proud of this lady, my best friend, for doing such an incredible thing as writing her own book. I have seen her spend countless hours at our computer. I’ve seen her persevere through, even when she wanted to give up. I prayed for her to persevere. I have enjoyed listening to her stories and reading this memoir to find out that she is a mystery of facts and truths; she is a book herself. My wife, the author, made sure to keep her credibility intact, researching and fact checking with members of her family who knew very important details. She even referred ancestry.com for more detailed information. She is soaring, and the best is yet to come.

It is such a great honor to be able to say something about this woman of God. Sophia Clemons is a devoted mother and wife who loves serving others with the love of God. Over the past 11 years that I have known Sophia, I have had the pleasure of watching her grow and blossom into a strong and powerful woman of God. As a result of her continual spiritual growth in Christ, Sophia was entrusted with one of the most important and significant jobs of the church today, that of preparing and helping to lead our children into a fruitful relationship with Christ. I pray that those of you who read this book will be spiritually enlightened and openly blessed by God.

    Preface

My teachers saw the potential and determination in me at an early age. I strived to be the best at everything, especially my schooling. I made straight A’s in my early years of schooling, and when I was given a grade less, the teacher and I had to talk about that B I received. I have always been a reader. As far back as I can remember, I knew I was supposed to read and then apply what I read to my life. I remember a military guy in my neighborhood that intrigued me. Whenever I saw him he was reading. One day, all of a sudden he was moving. I finally asked him, What books do you read? He said he read a lot of novels. I told him that I loved novels. He said that he had read a whole military bag of novels and books and that he was done with them and couldn’t take them with him, so he asked me if I wanted them. To his surprise, I was obliged to except them. Little did he know I had a burning desire to read.

I went right away to my room and curled up with a book, one of many I wanted to read. My favorite time was reading. Reading and writing were my sanity and peace. The few friends I did have had to wait if they came over while I was curled up with a book. I would read a dictionary if that was all I had to read. Books grew me and helped shape me. I recall living with my aunty and everywhere we drove, I would read every sign I saw. This really annoyed my cousins and they would tell my aunty to make me stop. This is when I learned to read to myself.
