And I Love Her - H.W. Sweeting
Chapter 1 - My Arrival
Alex’s POV
After two decades spent tirelessly pursuing my dreams in the bustling city of Dubai, returning home was not just a journey, it was the culmination of a lifetime of hard work, determination, and unwavering perseverance.
I had returned for a momentous occasion—my sister’s wedding.
I keep my return a closely guarded secret from my family, as the anticipation of the surprise brews within me.
As the plane touched down at the familiar airport of my hometown, a wave of nostalgia swept through me, prompting me to close my eyes and surrender to the flood of memories that engulfed my mind. With each passing moment, I felt myself slipping further into the depths of reverie, transported back to the carefree days of my childhood.
And as the cabin was filled with the buzz of disembarkation, I took a moment of quiet reflection. I know that no matter where life may lead me, the memories of my childhood will always serve as a guiding light, illuminating the path back to the place I called home. Suddenly, a gentle tap on my shoulder roused me from my thoughts, and I opened my eyes to find a member of the airline crew standing before me, a concerned expression on her face.
Excuse me, Sir. We’ve noticed you’re still on board. Is everything alright?
I was startled, I blink a few times before focusing on the crew member. Oh, yes, everything’s fine. I was just lost in thought for a moment there.
No problem at all. We’re about to close the aircraft. Are you ready to disembark?
Yes, I suppose I am. Thank you
, I replied, feeling a pang of reluctance to leave the cocoon of my memories.
Take your time. We’ll wait for you
, she added, offering me a reassuring smile.
After gathering my belongings, I follow the crew member off the plane, leaving behind the memories but carrying the warmth of their comfort with me.
Then, stepping off the plane into that tarmac of my hometown airport felt surreal, like entering a portal to a distant yet achingly familiar past. The air carried hints of memories long buried beneath layers of time, stirring emotions I had thought dormant. Outside, the landscape stretched out before me, unchanged yet subtly transformed by the passage of years. With each step, I felt the threads of my past weaving themselves around me, drawing me inexorably closer to the heart of my roots.
After deciding to spend a day in a hotel, I opted for the best hotel in the city and swiftly made my way to the airport lobby. As I stepped outside, the bustling scene greeted me, but amidst the chaos, I noticed a chauffeur holding a sign bearing my name. A flicker of surprise crossed my face, followed by a sense of intrigue. With a nod of acknowledgment, I approached the chauffeur, and he led me to the waiting vehicle with a welcoming smile.
As I sat back in the plush comfort of the vehicle, my gaze wandered out the window, taking in the breathtaking skyline of New York City. The towering skyscrapers stretched towards the heavens, each one a testament to the city’s enduring spirit of innovation and progress. I marveled at the diversity of architectural styles, from the timeless elegance of Art Deco masterpieces to the sleek lines of modern marvels that seemed to defy the laws of physics.
Startled from the reverie, I realized that we had arrived at our destination. The chauffeur’s voice broke through my thoughts, and I glanced out the window to see the imposing façade of the hotel looming before us. For a moment, I was taken aback by the sheer magnificence of the building, its grandeur and elegance leaving me speechless.
Thank you for the ride. The hotel looks incredible
, I informed the chauffeur as I am about to stepped out from the vehicle.
You’re welcome, Sir. Enjoy your stay
, he murmured, his eyes beaming with gratitude.
As I stepped into the hotel lobby, I was immediately struck by the grandeur of the surroundings. The opulent décor and elegant furnishings exuded an air of luxury and sophistication that was truly awe-inspiring. As I approached the front desk, a friendly attendant greeted me with a warm smile and handed me my hotel key card.
Seeking respite from the whirlwind of emotions and the weariness that clung to my bones, I found sanctuary in the quiet embrace inside my hotel room. The plush comfort of the bed welcomed me like an old friend, offering solace to my aching body that had weathered the journey home. Outside, the world continued its ceaseless rhythm, yet
