The Perfect 'But' - Kingston Swatikin
Introduction
The Perfect "But was written to encourage and inspire. We all know that words have meaning and power. They lead and we follow, many times. By definition, the word
but more often connotes a negative meaning. This book seeks to showcase the word
but" in a positive light in the context of the Bible – God’s truth.
There is no denying circumstances and situations that are negative and disastrous. If we trust God, believe in His Word, and do our part, we can overcome and will overcome – in this life or the life to come.
God is consistent but not predictable. He is always with us. We are never alone. The point is, things happen that shake us to the core. Most times, there is a process involved to get us back to some degree of normalcy. On other occasions, there are miracles. In all of this, the scriptures have repeatedly shown that God reigns supreme, and we reign with him. For this reason, but for what has happened to each of us, God still works all things for good.
But God – He will never leave us or forsake us. But God – He is our present help in time of need. But God – God is love.
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee. The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Numbers 6:24-26
Chapter 1
The Perfect But - Lift
In exactly one week’s time, I would have celebrated my three-month anniversary in this beautiful country. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be blessed with such an opportunity to get a job here. It’s every tourist’s paradise. But it’s also every banker’s career destination. I want to think that I am on vacation. But as the saying goes, There are no free lunches,
so I am on a working vacation.
As I restart my laptop and browse the internet, the significance of today, June 4th, also struck me, as today falls on the Platinum Jubilee festivities weekend, when we join the world in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on February 6th, 1952.
I was so blessed with a brief stint in London. I began my college experience in Fullham and Hatton Gardens and finished in Jersey. Believe it or not, of all the places, I liked Hyde Park most. High Street Kensington was also a favourite. I would often walk this familiar route to and from Hyde Park and occasionally got swept up in its eclectic architecture, high fashion, tantalizing food, and interesting subcultures. Rounding out my top three favourites is the Royal Albert Hall. I’ve only been there once during the Christmas holidays, and being on a student budget, I got a ticket for the viewing gallery. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance between standing and sitting on the floor. I guess it remains my favourite so that it remains
