Christian self-esteem workbook for women - Wilson Jones
Part 1: Foundations of Self-Esteem
Understanding Your Identity in Christ
Understanding your identity in Christ is foundational to building a healthy self-esteem rooted in biblical truth.
It's about recognizing who you are in light of God's love, grace, and purpose for your life. Here's a comprehensive explanation of what it means to understand your identity in Christ:
Creation in God's Image: At the very core of your identity is the truth that you are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). This means you possess inherent dignity, worth, and value simply by virtue of being a human being. Your identity is not defined by your achievements, appearance, or circumstances, but by your status as a beloved child of God.
Redeemed by Christ's Sacrifice: Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, you have been redeemed and reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:17-21). Your identity is no longer defined by sin and brokenness but by the righteousness and grace bestowed upon you through faith in Christ. You are a new creation, adopted into God's family and co-heirs with Christ.
Chosen and Beloved: As a follower of Christ, you are chosen and beloved by God (1 Thessalonians 1:4; Ephesians 1:4-5). Your identity is rooted in God's unconditional love and acceptance, regardless of your past mistakes or shortcomings. You are precious in His sight, and nothing can separate you from His love (Romans 8:38-39).
Called to Holiness and Purpose: God has called you to a life of holiness and purpose (1 Peter 2:9). Your identity is defined by your identity as a royal priesthood
and holy nation,
set apart to declare His praises and fulfill His purposes on earth. You have been uniquely gifted and equipped to contribute to God's kingdom work in meaningful ways.
Empowered by the Holy Spirit: Through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, you are empowered to live out your identity in Christ (Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 3:16-19). Your identity is not just a static concept but a dynamic reality that shapes how you think, act, and relate to others. The Holy Spirit enables you to bear fruit, grow in character, and fulfill your God-given potential.
Eternal Inheritance: Finally, your identity in Christ is anchored in the promise of an eternal inheritance (1 Peter 1:3-5). Your present struggles and challenges are temporary in light of the glory that awaits you in eternity. Your identity is secure in Christ, and nothing in this world can diminish the value and significance of who you are in Him.
Understanding your identity in Christ is a journey of discovery and transformation—a journey that leads to greater freedom, purpose, and fulfillment in Him.
As you embrace the truth of who you are in
