Vernon Postmus

Who is Vernon? Can you find him? Maybe he is with his family, fishing or bushwalking? Or just enjoying the great outdoors? No, I can’t seem to find him there! Shhh… Over there, I just spotted him, tucked away in that quiet space… He looks occupied, wrestling with words, as they tumble around him. There’s determination in his eyes, as he marshals them into line. It appears that a subject has caught his attention! Maybe it’s some marvel of creation that has a story to tell. Perhaps it is a word or a subject that he is pondering on. Either way, he appears determined to keep the message clear. There he goes, gently beating the words into a rhythm. And massaging the verse into rhyme. Come, take a look and see…

This book is dedicated to my beloved wife and four children. Thank you for your enduring love and patience with me, as I spent many, many hours ‘writing again’…
Thank you, Brenden, for being such a willing ‘first reader’ of many poems in the early stages. I appreciate your honest feedback, and greatly value the many deep discussions we enjoyed together.
Thank you, Helen, for your untiring work in proof-reading the final copy. Thanks also for encouraging me to continue with this collection and publishing it.

    SYNOPSIS

    ‘From my heart to yours’:

Your journey of life, with its twists and its turns,

Be they gentle or hard, for your heart as it yearns

For meaning and peace, for a purpose, true love.

Come, walk with me. Please look up above

To our almighty God, He is in full control,

He seeks out our hearts, for our life He unrolls

May we search out His will, may our true love be found,

For His Word teaches all, with a wisdom profound.

Take time with me now, we can share, we can grow

‘From my heart to yours,’ as we walk here below.

    WELCOME

Hello my friend, I welcome you. Thanks for coming, how do you do?

You have landed here, upon page one, and now your journey has begun

I beg you: take the journey slow. It should be nice, see where we go!

And don’t get caught within the rhyme. Please steady now, and take your time.

From my heart comes forth this book for you, so please sit down, and chew it through

It’s a message of encouragement. For you my friend – for you it’s meant

Dig deep into the words, the lines, I’ve hidden things for you to find

Search it out, and read it through, that’s all that’s left for you to do!

There’s only one thing that I yearn: I pray we both may grow and learn

Drawing closer to our God above, to flourish in His precious love.

Please live with Him, and read His Word. I love Him too, for I have heard

What He has done for you and me. How rich and full His love can be!

    THE GREATEST GIFT

Is not the greatest gift, the one we cherish more

The love of faithful Father, so steadfast, firm and sure

He gave us life in paradise, for the glory of His Name

Walked with us in evening shade. Our life He sure sustains.

When we spurned His precious love, God could rightly have destroyed

His rebellious creatures, for now there was a void

Between holy God and sinful man, a chasm oh so wide

In love He sent His only Son, who God’s justice satisfied.

Think it through: to give your son, for unworthy creatures, more

For those who spurned your loving hand, who disregard your law

Imputing all the sin of man, a weight beyond our mind

Upon a faithful, holy Son, in whom no error could be found.

And then, in love, our faithful God, He guards and leads His flock

Feeds and nourishes the young, through storms He is our rock

His love shines through in all His care, a constant, faithful hand

Who can fathom this great love, can we truly understand?

How do we work with His great love: do we accept it and walk on

Content to know that through God’s love, our salvation has been won

Or is our response to God’s great love – to love Him even more

Devoting time to know Him well – and seek communion evermore?

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

    1 Corinthians 13:13

And now we have God’s greatest gift, does our love radiate

To all the saints Christ died to save? Do we resent, or even hate

Can we really serve in love, holding Father’s children dear

Is our walk of life – with love? Are our motivations clear?

As Paul has wrote, and we can learn, by Spirit’s inspiration

If I have many gifts, abundant faith, and show great dedication

With great knowledge, feeding poor, and really look like something

But despite all this, if I have not love, then I am but nothing.

Love suffers long, nor seeks its own, and
