Love and Other Forms of Heartbreak - Tayler Simon
for Nanna and Quinyana
Vulnerability
nakedness
laying exposed, open
defenses are down
trust is up
but are my defenses really down?
I can get so much in my head
thinking about how I look
through the eyes of the other
I am exposed and raw
exposed
I am invisible
I want to be seen
I want to be seen
I want to be seen
I just want to be seen and loved and valued
notice me
Growing up
I was quiet
not because
I felt like my voice
wasn’t worthy
of being heard
I was quiet
for a sense
of making myself
invisible before someone
could deny me
if I was seen
We all just want to be seen,
despite how hard we try
to render ourselves invisible
the perks of being a wallflower
Prove to me
in ways that aren’t
always fair
that you love me
but I need
the reassurance
before you
