In the dimly lit corner of his small, cluttered room, the only source of illumination came from the twin glow of computer screens, casting eerie shadows on the walls plastered with gaming posters. It was the quiet shadows of predawn—the time when the world seemed to hold its breath. The clatter of keys and the distant hum of virtual battles filled the air, a sharp contrast to the still, dark world outside his window.
Jay, his eyes unblinking and focused, was a general in his own digital realm, orchestrating strategies with the precision of a seasoned tactician. His fingers danced over the keyboard with practiced ease, each keystroke a calculated decision in the heat of digital warfare. The virtual battlefield displayed on his screen was alive with chaos and order, an empire at his command.
The sudden creak of the door snapped him out of his trance. Irritation flashed across his features as he turned to see his mother, Angela, standing in the doorway. Her face was drawn with more than just the exhaustion of a night spent waiting up; it bore the deep furrows of perpetual worry and disapproval.
Jay! Are you still on that thing? It’s almost time for school and you haven’t slept a wink, have you?
Angela's voice was sharp, her concern tinged with a frustration born of many such mornings.
Jay pulled off his headphones, placing them down with a click softer than his mother’s weary tone. I'm just finishing up, Mom. I’ll be ready for school, don’t worry,
