Most of us have a glorified idea about love and marriage. Couples strolling on the beach, watching the sunset together, whispering promises of eternity into each other’s ear, and making love on satin sheets in wooden cottages overlooking the Swiss Alps. But life does not play out like that. No one tells the truth, what happens backstage. The love fades. The promises lose meaning. The lovemaking goes from being a passion to a duty, something a married couple ‘is supposed to do at bedtime.’ The husband and the wife start living separate lives under the same roof because they often do not want to ruffle feathers. 

The fire coursing through Debbie’s body kept her up night after night, while they slept with their backs to each other, and Rob snored away to glory. 

Sometimes, Rob snuggled up to her from behind and kissed her on the neck. She read that as a signal of his need, a rather rare phenomenon by itself. She turned around and they kissed as if they had to. He felt her up clumsily, desperately trying to turn her on. She did not feel anything. After a while, he decided to stop trying.
